Cannabis Secretariat- Job Summary
Bring your expertise in complex statistical and policy analysis projects to this dynamic role
The Cannabis Secretariat is the provincial lead for B.C.'s transition to cannabis legalization.

It led the development of the provincial regulatory framework and now works with ministries across government to develop and implement strategies and programs that support provincial policy goals related to cannabis:

protecting public health and safety; protecting children and youth; reducing the scope and size of the illegal market; addressing impaired driving; and economic development.


  • The Economist will provide support to develop and implement a coordinated crossgovernment strategy and approach to measuring, monitoring, and reporting on the impacts and implications of the legalization of nonmedical cannabis. The Economist leads complex research projects to support program and policy development, which will include the use of statistical modeling, forecasting, and leveraging data sources to improve and refine estimates.

Job Requirements:


  • A Master's Degree in Economics or closely related field such as Statistics, Commerce, or Mathematics, or equivalent.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of statistical analysis and economic modelling projects.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience writing reports, presenting research findings and recommendations, and developing briefing materials to support policy discussions and seniorlevel decisionmaking

About this Position:

There is currently a temporary opportunity available until April 30, 2024, this temporary opportunity may become permanent.

  • Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
