    The Real Estate and Economic Development Department is looking for a regular full-time Business License Inspector.

    Responsibilities

    You will perform inspectional and regulatory work related to business and trade. Specifically, you will review and issue business licences, support business inquiries, inspect business premises; investigate complaints from the public, other business owners or authorities; interpret and explain applicable by-laws and regulations to business owners, the public and various external and internal contacts; recommend licence suspension or cancellation for non-compliance; and prepare documentation relating to prosecutions/court requirements. In addition you will maintain records, prepare reports and correspondence; propose and draft by-laws and amendments relating to business operations; and recommend procedures to improve efficiencies.

    You will also assist with administrative and research duties for the Economic Development function, including researching/gathering information on specific topics, developing and maintaining business-related databases and statistics and providing assistance in implementing economic development initiatives.

    Requirements

    You will have sound knowledge of zoning Bylaw's and the City's various bylaws, regulations, policies, practices and procedures as related to business licensing. Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, plus additional job-related courses in business administration, bylaw enforcement, land use planning or public administration. A minimum of two (2) years job-related work experience, inclusive of field inspections and/or bylaw enforcement experience, or local government administration is required. Knowledge of municipal zoning regulations is required. Experience working in a local government setting is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Valid Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.

    Compensation

    $37.58 to $44.22 per hour

    (Pay Grade 21 – January 2024 rates)

    Hours of Work

    The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
