Options Work Activity Program


The mission of the Options Work Activity Program is to help prepare and integrate individuals with barriers to employment into the workforce and community.

This is achieved by providing pre-employment and employment services, focused on personal, social and work-related skills development.

The Options Work Activity Program supports participants, ages 16 to 60+, who are on the path to sustainable employment that may require more intensive services than those offered elsewhere.

We have been looking for you

  • Career Practitioner_
  • Collaborate with the career development support team to the benefit of the participants and the program
  • Conduct intake interviews, registration, and program orientation sessions
  • Liaise with referring agencies regarding initial referrals
  • Maintain and update intake statistics and supply statistical reports
  • Perform 1:1 career coaching to participants and create individual program plans
  • Conduct needs assessment of interests, values, skills and competencies of participants and connecting them with labour market needs
  • Assess participants' barriers to employment, develop strategies to reduce these barriers; monitor and evaluate results; create return to work action plans for each participant
  • Conduct informal and comprehensive evaluations (ESAT) and assessments with participants to review progress and develop remedial measures
  • Follow up with referring agencies regarding participant progress; provide written documentation on participants to internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain uptodate statistics and reports for files and in LaMPSS
  • Mediate conflict between participants and/or staff when necessary
  • Provide support to participants and advocate on their behalf
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and provide participant updates to staff
  • Maintain the required standards of confidentiality and ethical practices at all times

  • Develop, implement, and facilitate training sessions in personal development and team building
  • Maintain a welcoming and inviting mentality with participants, staff and visitors/customers
  • Ensure participants are employment ready for placement or for work in the community

Qualifications:

  • A combination of education and experience that demonstrate abilities in this scope of work. A degree in social work, sociology, education, counselling, or psychology, along with, Nova Scotia Career Development Practitioner Certification.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to working with diverse and inclusive populations
  • Established effective and appropriate interpersonal communication skills and strong writing abilities
  • Knowledgeable of individualized programming (needs assessments, implementation strategies and evaluation techniques)
  • Ability to work within a dynamic team environment with a shared vision
  • Effective interviewing skills
  • Sensitivity to various barriers to employment
  • Experienced with facilitating groups of adult learners
  • Practice ethical decision making
  • Experienced in working with community groups and volunteer agencies
  • Must have excellent written and verbal English communication skills; and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word and Excel)
  • Adherence to inclusionary practice and a respect for diversity
  • Experience with LaMPSS would be an asset
