Community Specialist In Training

Purpose


A Community Specialists (CS) In Training will be provided work experience and mentorship to develop a career in the human services field.

This position will support front-line employees in creating a safe, caring and community-enriched life for the individuals/families who hire us.

The conscientious CS In Training will act with integrity, be open to growth, live our purpose, cultivate teamwork, and put forth an extraordinary effort to empower people with diverse abilities and their families to grow, succeed, and belong.

Key Functions

  • Provide support for direct care and purposeful support in an engaging, fun and safe environment
  • Foster genuine relationships promoting dignity, personal interests and identities
  • Empower people to create meaningful days and achieve their goals
  • Communicate effectively with their team members, which includes to individuals, families, and coworkers
  • Build a vision of inclusion, one person at a time
  • Model socially appropriate behaviors and assist/ encourage participants to make and maintain appropriate community connections
  • Support participants in some aspects of personal hygiene and personal care as required.
  • Maintain timely, accurate and professional documents in accordance with AdaptAbilities policies and procedures
  • Understand and comply with all emergency processes and risk management
  • Perform other jobrelated activities as required

Qualifications:


  • Working towards completion of High School Diploma and little or no workrelated experience.
  • Alignment with AdaptAbilities core purpose and core values
  • Ability to provide a clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check
  • Basic First Aid Certification CPR Level C and AED is required upon hire
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol are an asset

Compensation Package:
$15.83/ hour

Working Conditions
Hearts in Action Summer Camps provides fun and meaningful activities that support the growth of real relationships and belonging.


Working within the Edmonton Area at temporary camp locations reporting to the assigned Program Supervisor, this is a full-time seasonal position.

Camps run from July 3, 2023 to August 25, 2023. Schedule is Monday to Friday. Hours of work are scheduled between 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Core schedule is 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with potential to work before or after to meet the needs of programs.

Funding for Summer Positions
AdaptAbilities utilizes Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Grant for various temporary summer positions.

CSJ is a program under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS), which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help youth in Canada develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market.

The program provides wage subsidies to employers to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years.

Youth must be eligible to work in Canada as a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.


Note:
These are not requirements to be considered for the role but do determine grant eligibility.
