Kennedy House (KH) is a not-for-profit organization with a long-standing dedication to providing exceptional personalized care for youth in the Greater Toronto Area for over 50 years.

KH started with an initial family-like group home in 1971 and currently operates several residential and community-based programs, for marginalized and at-risk youth, including:


  • One residential program for adolescents in care;
  • Three residential programs for youth and young adults living with developmental disabilities;
  • A Day Treatment school program for youth struggling in the typical school setting;
  • Kennedy House Youth Centre, a secure custody facility for male youth experiencing conflict with the law;
  • Bailiff services to safely and securely transport youth experiencing conflict with the law;
  • Kennedy House After School Program for children aged 413 in underserved communities throughout Scarborough; and
  • Kennedy House Youth Shelter, for youth aged 1624 experiencing homelessness.
KH works with youth to enable them to grow as individuals and contribute as members of the community. This is achieved by providing customized support and building trusting relationships.

***Reporting directly to the Shelter Supervisor, the Volunteer and Donations Coordinator will take the lead in recruiting, training, scheduling and overseeing the work of a group of volunteers for the agency. This role will also play a leadership role in developing volunteer roles, responsibilities, job descriptions, maintain databases and promotes volunteer opportunities. The incumbent will also seek donations to support Kennedy House programming and youth. As a Volunteer and Donations Coordinator, you will also seek donations to support Kennedy House programming and youthwill be developing relationships with volunteer agencies, churches, schools, businesses, etc.


The Kennedy House Youth Shelter is an emergency shelter in the City of Toronto for youth ages 16 to 24 that are homeless.

Clients may self-refer in person or over the phone.

The typical length of stay in an emergency shelter is intended to be of short duration and the majority of clients use this type of shelter only once before returning to permanent housing.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains regular donation pick ups in community.
  • Maintains inventory of donations, client intake and hygiene supplies and ensuring donation rooms are organized.
  • Supports with social media presence and continued fund development initiative by brainstorming and sharing program statistics with the Senior Fund Development Officer and Shelter Management Team
  • Maintains overall building safety & cleanliness
  • Leads volunteer recruitment process, including postings, interviewing, appropriate placement and documentation for the agency including fundraising events.
  • Conducts orientation and coordinates training for volunteers and their adherence to policies including health and safety.
  • Connects regularly with volunteers to develop relationships and gather feedback
  • Maintains volunteer database and catalogue of job descriptions
  • Responsible for maintaining volunteer schedules
  • Maintains and develops relationships with volunteer agencies, churches, schools and area businesses for the purpose of recruiting volunteers and donations.
  • Work from an Anti-Racist Anti-Oppressive, Harm Reduction, Personcentered, Strengthbased lens.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

  • Postsecondary education in volunteer management or related field.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in similar role in donations considered an asset.
  • Experience working with marginalized youth facing mental health issues and addictions who are chronically homeless.
  • Valid Class G Driver's License and clean Driver's Abstract is required
  • Current (within 6 months) Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Search must be provided
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR Level C
  • Familiarity with a volunteer management database an asset
  • Event planning and/or project management experience an asset.
  • Ability to exercise appropriate authority, leadership and direction.
  • Competence in making and implementing decisions.
  • Ability to assess performance of others.
  • Ability to function independently within the framework of a team.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction practices: overdose prevention, safety plans, administration of Naloxone
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with clients and partner agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize work and remain adaptable and flexible.
  • Computer literacy in Word, Internet use, and Databases is an asset.
  • Toronto Shelter Standards and WHIMS training is an asset
  • Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, agency policies, procedures and guidelines.
