This upscale, 500 room all-suite hotel with 45,000 sq ft of conference space is seeking a high energy, motivated individual to fill the role of
Director of Human Resources.

This position is a leadership team member and reports directly to the General Manager.

The Director of Human Resource oversees the Human Resources Department for the hotel, and delivers in all aspects of the Human Resources functions and day-to-day operations of the Department.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides guidance and counsel to managers and senior leaders pertaining to employee/labour relations, employment compliances, performance management, conflict and change management.
  • Evaluates organizational needs, develops aligned human resource solutions and implements strategies in the areas of labour relations, compensation and benefits, recognition, administration, and employee wellness.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are in adherence to legislative requirements.
  • Oversees labour relations though the grievance, arbitration and mediation process; responds to all labour relations matters.
  • Completes investigations and provides guidance on all corrective action matters.
  • Takes an active leadership role in hotel Health and Safety initiatives, accident prevention and disability management, including actively participating on the JHSC.
  • Coordinates and assists in the delivery of all training programs i.e., Orientation, Customer Service Training, Food Handlers Training, Smart Serve, Hilton Learning Series, etc.
  • Ensures all Human Resources requirements are up to date as per the QA requirements.
  • Prepares employment offer letters for all management hires.
  • Administers disability management and WSIB claims, through return to work plans, accommodation, attendance management and injury/illness reporting.
  • Oversees the onboarding process. This includes altering, updating and changing onboarding as sees fit, and set up and process all new hires.
  • Processes and maintains confidential information and properly documents information for payroll purposes, i.e., new hires, personal information, wage/status changes and termination paperwork.
  • Oversees and coordinates all employee engagement/recognition programs, i.e., monthly theme luncheons, staff BBQ, Holiday Gala, Service Awards, Champions of the Quarter, Manager and Employee of the Year, employee birthday letters, and Blue Energy.
  • Responsible for managing the hotel's benefits program, this includes benefit administration and leading the benefit contract renewal process.
  • Provides support for leave of absences and return to work.
  • Monitors and distributes employee's probationary reviews list.
  • Maintains and prepares monthly Employee Accident and Turnover reports.
  • Oversees the coordination of coop programs with schools and colleges.
  • Attends and participates in the leadership meeting and management and employee. Functions representing Human Resources and the Hotel accordingly both on and off hotel property.
  • Performs other tasks or projects as assigned by Management.

Qualifications and Skills

  • University Degree/College Diploma in Human Resources.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Human Resources Management with a unionized hospitality environment.
  • Previous experience working with Collective Agreements.
  • Thorough knowledge of Employment legislation, Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, AODA, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workers Safety and Insurance Act.
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi task, probe, analyze, and problem solve issues.
  • Must be detail oriented and be able to work with deadlines.
  • Selfmotivation, ability to motivate others and creativity in problem solving
  • Working knowledge of Windows, MS word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint.
  • Experience with ADP time and attendance and payroll systems an asset.
