  • The Meteorology Manager is responsible for leading the Weather team with the Video and Editorial group. Working in a team environment, you will work directly with the Meteorology Assignment Editors & Weather Presentation Systems Specialist to drive video and editorial content across all our platforms. This role will be responsible for developing our weather storytelling strategy and use datadriven insights to help grow engagement across all platforms. In addition, this role will be responsible for leading our Storm Centre coverage across all platforms.

  • What does this mean in terms of scheduling? _
  • This means that you are expected to work operationally flexible hours and support every member of your team, some of whom will be working on weekends and overnight shifts. You will have direct reports reaching out to you in emergency situations which are outside of normal working hours. You will typically work 37.5 hours a week on average and with the support_

WHAT'S THE DAY TO DAY LIKE?:

  • Develop and execute a weather storytelling strategy to meet the needs of consumers across all platforms
  • Develop and organize a strategy for Monthly & Seasonal forecasts
  • Lead a team of Meteorological Assignment Editors and Video Meteorologists to produce the most compelling weather storytelling segments across all our platforms
  • Lead the Weather Presentation System Specialist to produce & develop the most compelling weather visuals using Lynx Baron for all Pelmorex business units
  • Oversee the video presentation of all meteorological information to ensure the integrity of the product, including the provision of timely and accurate research, and support to the video and editorial teams
  • Initiate & lead the planning, communication, and updates with the leaders of the Video & Editorial team in advance of Storm Centre (timing, field team position, additional staffing, adjusting hours, live streaming, etc.)
  • Work closely with the Meteorological Assignment Editors to develop objectives for our Video Meteorologists to meet the needs of our audiences.
  • Provide support to the Meteorological Assignment Editors and Video Meteorologists to be able to take on additional responsibilities when needed
  • Ensure there is an open, two way communication between the Meteorology Assignment Editor and the Forecast Centre to ensure consistent forecast data across all platforms and between TWN (The weather network) and MM (Mateo Media)
  • Keep open communication with the MeteoMedia meteorology team to ensure the weather content strategy is consistent with both
  • Prolonged hours during active weather may be required
  • Compile & analyze analytics of Video Meteorologist videos to continue to evolve a video strategy with the Content Strategy Manager
  • Oakville in office presence is required during Storm Centre (including weekends) as defined by the V&E Leadership Team
  • Roles, responsibilities and duties may evolve and change over time based on business needs._

WE ARE HOPING YOU HAVE:


  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership position
  • Degree in Atmospheric Science/Meteorology or related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of North American meteorology, climates and geography
  • Solid understanding of numerical weather prediction models and their output
  • Strong computer knowledge/technical background
  • Strong understanding of video & editorial strategy
  • Strong judgment around storytelling of meteorology and active weather
  • Ability to lead and provide feedback
