As our Team Lead, you will lend your expertise and operational leadership for the City of Edmonton's Financial and Corporate Services Systems.

You will lead complex enhancement and other initiatives with high strategic value that may result in significant organizational change and visibility to the organization and external stakeholders.

You will play a critical role in leading and providing oversight and control to operational and maintenance planning and service coordination activities.

This supervisory role is responsible for maintaining critical communication channels between the Branch Leadership Team and staff, conducting necessary conversations, and making sound decisions using an understanding of City of Edmonton policies, procedures and frameworks.

Subject Matter Expertise

  • Maintain a detailed understanding and ongoing awareness of the emerging technologies and industry trends, and their applicability to the City's environment
  • Resolve or coordinate service deficiencies, and escalate service failures or complex problems that span across technology layers
  • Provide organizational leadership and guidelines to promote the development and implementation of specialist knowledge in the organization
  • Maintain a network of recognised experts, both internally and external to the organization, who can deliver expert advice in areas relevant to the organization's current and future needs
  • Provide input into professional development planning across a significant part of the organization to further the development of appropriate expertise
  • Foster and ensure adoption of infrastructure management tools when needed and/or available to determine load and performance statistics
  • Oversee the implementation of change requests and maintenance routines, and configure tools to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of the environments within their scope
  • Identify operational problems and contribute to their resolution in accordance with standards and procedures

Planning

  • Perform comprehensive systems planning activities, including operational plans and procedures, roadmaps and establishing operational parameters
  • Plan, manage and coordinate implementation and maintenance activities; prioritize and delegate work, plan activity timing, monitor progress, schedule acquisition of technology and resources, and ensure quality assurance activities are performed
  • Provide advice, guidance and expertise to promote adoption of methods and tools and adherence to policies and standards
  • Evaluate and select appropriate methods and tools in line with City policies and standards; manage the implementation of these at the program, project and team level
  • Manage reviews of the benefits and value of methods and tools; identify and recommend improvements
  • Contribute to applicable organizational policies, standards and guidelines

Unit Management

  • Conduct performance appraisals, and complete attendance and performance management when required
  • Create a safe, healthy and respectful work environment; grow talent by mentoring and coaching team members
  • Maintain critical communication channels between the leadership team and staff, conduct necessary conversations, make sound decisions, ensure an understanding of policies, procedures and frameworks that are of importance to the City of Edmonton
  • Identify and manage the resources needed for the planning, development and delivery of specified technology systems and services, including allocation of time and oncall work assignments
  • Lead budgeting, estimating, planning and objective setting for activities assigned to your team
  • Plan and manage the implementation of processes and procedures, tools and techniques for monitoring and managing the performance of automated systems and services
  • Align the contribution of systems and services to clearly stated business and financial goals and performance targets
  • Monitor performance and take corrective action where necessary and in line with City policies and our Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Develop new methods and organizational capabilities (including automation and orchestration) for your team

Qualifications:


  • One of the following combinations of education and experience:
  • Degree in computer science or management with a technical minor and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience;
    OR:
  • Post secondary diploma in a related discipline and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with IIS 8.5 or higher, SQL Server Management Studio, SQL scripting, ASP.

Net and SSRS proficiency are required:

  • Experience with iNovah, Aperta, COBS, IcePay,TD Business Windows and CCURE is an asset
  • Automation experience and orchestration is an asset
  • Demonstrated abili
