As a Caseworker, you determine and assess risk to children through the investigation process, planning, making referrals to community resources and developing public awareness of child abuse issues and resources.

The Northern Alberta Child Intervention Services team is looking for motivated professionals to fill Child Intervention Practitioner positions in our After-Hours unit.

This front-line position will assist with the continued enhancement of services offered to children and families who live within the Edmonton Region and within the northern part of the province of Alberta.


Professionals in this role focus on the practice strategies and the Child Intervention Practice Framework, the work within the After-Hours unit has become increasingly diverse and rewarding.

Staff is responsible for providing services to children, youth, and families through effective service delivery under the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act.

Family preservation work is assigned to the staff working within the After-Hours unit in order to facilitate efficient family placements, support children within parental care, as well as any other related duties that would support the safety and wellbeing of the children and families that we work with.

As part of a continuous 24-hour operation, you will be required to work a shift rotation of 12 hour shifts that includes days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

As an Afterhours Child Intervention Practitioner, you will utilize:

  • Your strong knowledge of legislation such as, the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act, Protection of Sexually Exploited Children's Act, Drug Endangered Children's Act, Child and Family Services protocols
  • Regional directives, and all related policies to complete intakes, assessments and make recommendations to ensure the safety and protection of children and families.
  • Your awareness of Family Preservation work to facilitate efficient safety planning and support to children within parental care.

Role Continued:

Employing Signs of Safety and Practice Strategies within your strong interviewing skills, you will:

  • Rely heavily on your ability to perform multi-level assessments when collecting and determining the nature and the degree of risk to a child.
  • Demonstrate your strong communication, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills in your intervention and counseling of clients.
  • Exhibit your oral, written and computer skills as a key requirement in the completion of intake and assessment documents and presentation of documents for court.
  • Face stressful situations and irregular hours, you will need to be highly motivated and selfdirected with strong time management and organizational skills.

Qualifications:


Education:


  • Bachelor of Social Work or a
  • Social Work Diploma with 6 months of related experience as a child intervention services worker.

Experience:


  • Knowledge of community resources and Indigenous culture is essential.
  • Experience working with Microsoft office is required.
  • Preferred experience: conducting assessments, case management and planning in a child intervention setting and knowledge working with Indigenous cultures.
  • Functional use of Microsoft Office and Windows computer software is required.
  • Previous experience in delivering foster care, kinship care, permanency support, and family preservation or intervention services would be an asset.
  • You will have a working knowledge of the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well strong critical thinking skills.

Equivalencies:

  • Master of Social Work and no experience,
- a related university degree with two (2) years of related experience
- a related diploma plus three (3) years of related experience.
