Michael's Hospital is a lead trauma hospital, providing specialized care for severely injured patients, whether arriving by ambulance from downtown Toronto or by helicopter to our roof.

Dr.

Brodie Nolan leads a dynamic and growing research program focusing on improving prehospital trauma care and evaluating acute trauma resuscitation.


The Prehospital Trauma Resuscitation Program is currently looking for a
Research Program Manager to lead and grow this research program.

This position encompasses the overall responsibility for the development and implementation of strategies used in the conduct of research, the development and implementation of new research within the institution, in addition to the general management of a Research Program.

This position will be responsible for the financial and human resource management* of a research program.


Activities, Duties & Responsibilities:


Program Management

  • Provide overall management and support to the research program and its leadership
  • Developing and implementing policies, procedures and standards for the research program
  • Developing and managing project plans, timelines and milestones
  • Providing project management guidance and support on multiple projects
  • Effectively managing risks identified in projects, flagging apparent bottlenecks/delays to ensure that any issues are swiftly resolved
  • Engaging with investigators, external partners and regulatory agencies to enable and lead the conduct of research to enhance prehospital and acute trauma resuscitation
  • Developing and leading data governance efforts and data privacy policies
  • Developing and/or authorizing research study budgets and payment schedules
  • Developing and negotiating research agreements and strategic alliances with outside parties
  • Negotiating terms of financing with outside parties (hospital and industry based)
  • Approving allocation of funds for unfunded research projects presented to the research program
  • Managing research undertaken with a diversity of internal and external partners, to ensure the efficient and effective progression of worldleading research
  • Monitoring resources and budgets within allocated projects to ensure maximum values delivered for resources deployed
  • Chairing research group meetings
  • Representing and promoting the work of program at both internal and external meetings/events

Strategic Leadership:


  • Planning the longterm strategy of the program (projects, timelines, staffing and resource needs)
  • Fostering and maintaining new partnerships from within the healthcare, academic, philanthropic and industry areas, as well as funding and research governance bodies
  • Identify new areas of activity, additional partners and innovative solutions to operational problems using judgement and discretion

People Management

  • Recruiting, hiring, supervising research staff, including responsibility for payroll time entry
  • Lead and oversee the recruitment/hiring process of staff, including developing job postings, interview guides and letters of offer
  • Participate in performance management
  • Training and supervising of Research staff, paramedics and undergraduate/graduate students, including ongoing updates of various research guidelines and regulations
  • Coach and mentor research staff, trainees, junior investigators and visiting scientists
  • Responsible for the generation of employment and payroll reports
  • Preparing staffing schedules and maintaining efficient and optimal staffing levels (including daily, vacation, and sick time coverage)

Research:


  • Initiating and developing research proposals and protocols
  • Adapting research findings to the development of new research studies
  • Conducting administrative and technical research and contributing to professional publications, presentations, and posters
  • Supervising general interim analysis of demographic, safety and efficacy data
  • Participating in material management, inventory management, safety management, and quality assurance

Qualifications:


  • MSc in related discipline with minimum 5 years related experience required or demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in prehospital research and evaluation of acute trauma resuscitation is required
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in translational research is required
  • Experience managing complex, multistakeholder projects including budgeting, hiring, and contracting work is required
  • Experience working with varied stakeholders, including policymakers at the provincial and/or national level, investigators, trainees and patient partners
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills are necessary
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload
