About this opportunity


Cenovus's Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) New Grad Program aims to attract, develop and retain exceptional new grads to build a top-tier talent pipeline for the company.

The program provides new grads with a broad understanding of Cenovus's core business through challenging work assignments, training and development, field exposure and the opportunity to develop an extensive network of contacts through networking and mentorship opportunities.

Our pre-approved CPA training program consists of three consecutive 12-month rotational assignments that span Cenovus's varied financial business areas.

These rotations have more progressively complex responsibilities, which help develop the competencies required to successfully meet the qualifications of the CPA designation.

Upon completing this program, the CPA will be placed in a role within the organization. This role will be based on business needs, and relocation may be required.

Benefits of Cenovus's CPA New Grad Program Receive support throughout the CPA professional education program (PEP) modules and Common Final Examination (CFE), including supplementary practice cases and marking, mentorship and group learning sessions. Provides technical refreshers (financial reporting, tax, assurance, etc.) to prepare for the CFE. Paid study days for module exams and the CFE.- Current and past CPA students build a lasting community to support each other.

What you'll do


Responsibilities may include:

  • Rotating through three 12month work rotations in Financial Reporting, Internal Audit, Tax, Treasury, or Business Unit Accounting to attain competencies required for CPA.
  • Performing analysis and preparing financial reports used by management and key partners. Understand the impact of strategic and operational decisions on financial results.
  • Explaining yeartodate results by preparing monthly reports that include actual, budget, and forecast data.
  • Analyzing business processes, systems and data requirements and suggesting potential improvements to meet information needs.
  • Prepare information needed for operational plans, budgets and forecasts.


Who you are- Available to begin work in May Must have an undergraduate or higher degree in accounting, finance or a related field obtained by April 30, 2025, and completed within the last 2 years (2023, 2024, Previous accounting or finance experience (inclusive of summer or co-op/internship) is an asset.- Previous oil and gas industry experience (inclusive of summer or co-op/internship) is an asset.- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.- Exposure to accounting software and/or SAP is an asset.- Strong problem-solving, creative thinking, curiosity and analytical skills.- Communication skills, both written and verbal.- Ability to work in a team environment.- Desire to pursue a long-term career in the energy industry.- Legally entitled to work in Canada.


You must have completed:

  • Prerequisite business and accounting courses as specified by CPA Alberta.
  • All CPA Alberta prerequisite courses prior to commencement of Core 1 in May 2025.
Relocation


If you need to relocate for your first rotation/home location, support will be provided in accordance with Cenovus's internal policies.
