JOB SUMMARY
The Production Supervisor has the responsibility of maximizing the effectiveness of the processing of operation on a day-to-day basis. They will oversee labour, materials and machinery utilization and will ensure that waste is kept to an absolute minimum. This role supports the leading of operators throughout a specific shift and reports directly to the Operations Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES


Labour management:

  • Ensure that employees are adequately trained and sufficiently flexible to maintain continuity of production. Any training issues should be escalated to the Responsible Manager.
  • Oversee the day to day management of other employees in the area. Where the Responsible Manager is not on the same direct shift pattern, a Lead Operator will be appointed and will be responsible for making decisions in the manager's absence.
  • Monitor attendance of employees and refer unsatisfactory attendance or timekeeping to the Responsible Manager.
  • Monitor break times and deal with any issues as and when they occur. Repeated issues should be escalated to the Responsible Manager.
  • Ensure standards of behavior are adhered to and refer any repeated nonconformance to the Responsible Manager.
  • Highlight any labour issues to Responsible Manager in good time to ensure that suitable provisions are made.
  • Ensure time spent on productive work is maximized.
  • Motivate, develop and encourage team members to maximize productive work whilst keeping all staff well informed.
  • Undertake appraisals for new team members in area, ensuring clear feedback and goals are set.

Manufacturing:

  • Drive the overall performance of the area to ensure that production activities occur as scheduled within the plan.
  • Ensure that the attainment to plan is monitored and that production accurately produces the volumes detailed on this plan. Any deviation must be investigated, and findings reported to the Responsible Manager as soon as possible.
  • Promote GMP processes and standards within the Processing Department.
  • Ensure that:
  • Machinery/Equipment is set up correctly and to standard
  • Machinery/Equipment is not illused, causing danger of breakdown or damage
  • Machinery/Equipment is maintained in a clean and hygienic condition
  • Machinery/Equipment is in a safe condition for use
  • Breakdowns are rectified in a timely fashion

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a minimum of 2 years of plant operating experience in milling of flour or pulses
  • Minimum grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Must be safetyoriented
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • An understanding of basic largescale equipment operation including automated processing systems
  • Experience operating a forklift
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, team building, analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Ability to work shiftwork and overtime, including weekends
  • Exposure to and understanding of HACCP protocols, GMP and SOPs are desirable skills
