Position Summary:


Reporting to the Senior Director, Human Resources Division, the Abilities Management Specialist leads the Disability Management Program for the London Police Service.

This role is critical to organization wellness and plays a key role to ensure early and safe return to work for our members experiencing an occupational or non-occupational illness or injury.


Responsibilities:


  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of disability and attendance related support programs, policies, and processes.
  • Ensure effective communication and administration of all aspects of the disability management process for all occupational and nonoccupational injuries and illnesses for members of the London Police Service (LPS).
  • Communicate with members who are absent to understand nature of absence, provide access to resources, determine fitness for duty, and work together to develop early and safe returntowork plans as appropriate.
  • Discuss returntowork and accommodation options available to employee to support claims with Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) or Long-Term Disability (LTD) carrier.
  • Ensure proper documentation is received and claims are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Create letters and questionnaires to request appropriate medical documentation.
  • Administer selfinsured shortterm disability plan.
  • Liaise with WSIB and LTD carriers on status of claims.
  • Communicate member restrictions and limitations to senior management to identify appropriate work.
  • Develop returntowork (RTW) plans and accommodations and ensure duties are aligned with abilities.
  • Negotiate with WSIB and LTD carriers with respect to adjudication practices and handling of claims or RTW practices.
  • Maintain detailed records and ensure the security and confidentiality of all medical documentation and information is in compliance with privacy legislation and LPS procedures.
  • Determine whether Independent Medical Examination (IME) may be required and assist with RTW planning.
  • Consolidate and analyze medical costs and equipment to inform future budgeting requirements.
  • Monitor the attendance management program and provide support to members who have not been able to maintain attendance at work through support and counseling.
  • Determine entry and progression through the attendance management program and advise member and member's supervisor of status.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments as required.
  • Other duties as assigned within the core competencies.

Requirements:


  • 4year University Degree in Human Resources, Disability Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology or equivalent.
  • Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) Certification considered an asset.
  • 45 years' progressive experience in disability case management.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation including Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Human Rights Code, and AODA.
  • Excellent communication skills for regular contact with LPS members and external agencies to give, obtain, and/or exchange, and/or discuss technical information or decisions requiring discussion or explanation to ensure full understanding, with tact, selfcontrol, and persuasiveness.

Salary:

$94,045 (Starting) to $98,049 (6 Months)


Benefits:


Temporary members receive ten percent (10%) of their hourly rate in lieu of benefits (after 120 calendar days) and are also eligible to join the OMERS Pension Plan upon their first day of hire.

Hours of Duty:
Day shift; Monday-Friday
