About Us:


Responsibilities:


The Marker will be responsible for marking and grading a variety of written work completed by students, including assignments, projects, midterms, and final exams for English 1020E online (Understanding Literature Today) for a maximum of 70 hours over the course of the contract.

(The actual hours worked may vary from 0 to 10 hours per week, but the incumbent will be paid for 5 hours per week over the course of the contract.) The incumbent will evaluate the students' work in accordance with the marking guidelines, provide corrections and feedback, and submit grades for review based on specific guidelines from the Instructor.

The incumbent may be required to submit written feedback to students based on the quality of work received, and may make time for scheduled consultations with students.


Qualifications:


  • Education: Minimum Masters degree in English or a related field
  • Eligibility Requirement:
  • Must be registered in, or completed a program, within the Department of English and Writing Studies at Western
  • Previous marking experience required

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Indepth knowledge of the material covered in the course/program
  • Attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language
  • Communication skills to convey information and feedback in a clear and effective manner
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
  • Ability to provide feedback in a way that is positively received
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
  • Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating work load
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve issues
