At Surrey Place we help children and adults living with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and visual impairments reach their full potential.

We offer a variety of groups and workshops for clients, families, and caregivers, as well as extensive education and consultation services to community agencies.


Our comprehensive programs and services range from assessment, diagnosis, and one-on-one treatment to family counselling and group support and is provided by a broad network of clinicians and professionals.

Surrey Place is accredited with Accreditation Canada and is affiliated with the University of Toronto and other academic institutions and is a teaching site for students in a variety of health care professions.

Position Description:


Main Responsibilities:


  • Interview families to determine needs, services and resources related to their child's sensory functioning and impact on development.
  • Orient the family to services provided by Surrey Place, and regional service agencies as appropriate.
  • Assist in identifying and making referrals to access resources or services based on the identified needs and priorities of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Analysis of the child's sensory function and development and environment considerations in order provide recommendations for inclusion in a program plan to maximize the child's access to the learning environment.
  • Develop functional strategies to support the child's learning with emphasis on the development of visual, tactile, auditory, and orientation and mobility skills.
  • Collaborate with parents/caregiver(s) and other professionals to identify strengths and needs of the child, family, and community in order to highlight priorities leading to the development of a plan for implementation.
  • Support other professionals and staff in the communitybased early learning and childcare settings to enhance their capacity to understand and respond to the developmental issues of the child and promote the child's inclusion into communitybased programs.

Qualifications:


  • University Degree in Early Childhood Education, or Diploma in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college program and a post diploma certificate in special needs.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Three years' experience working in the field of Early Childhood Education including experience working with children with special needs.
  • Indepth knowledge of the Ontario Blind-Low Vision Early Intervention Program Guidelines
  • Experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Access to a vehicle for travel within the GTA preferred but not required.
  • This position requires use of a vehicle and travel within the GTA.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 36
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset.
