It begins by examining the roots of Modernism, considering 19th-century movements such as Impressionism and Symbolism; it proceeds to the early 20th-century avant-garde, exploring the legacies of Futurism, Cubism, Surrealism and abstraction; it concludes with major post-war modern art movements, including gestural abstraction, Pop, Conceptual Art, Land Art, and Performance Art.
