Overview:

Element has a current opening for a full time

Chemist I at our Toronto location.


Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Trace Metals and Manager, Trace Metals and GMP Testing, this position is responsible for the following:

  • Perform routine chemical and physical analysis on the full range of analytical samples in accordance with in-house methods, customer's method or compendial method primarily using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS)
  • Perform and maintain AAS performance verifications, troubleshoot when required
  • Conduct method development, method validation testing and analytical method transfer testing using AAS
  • Prepare analytical reports, method validation protocols and reports for validations and verifications performed using AAS
  • Maintain documentation, including lab notebooks, equipment logbooks and instrument raw data in accordance with applicable SOPs
  • Inform and discuss with Manager any atypical / OOS result and deviations
  • Perform pipette calibrations, washing of glassware, disposal of samples in accordance with inhouse SOPs
  • Assist senior chemists with routine chemical analysis of analytical samples using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-OES)
  • Assist Supervisor and Manager with other laboratory duties as required

Skills / Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in chemistry or related field or one year experience in a pharmaceutical laboratory
  • Excellent working knowledge of equipment and methodologies used in the laboratory
  • Good working knowledge of current cGMP, compendia, Element general SOPs and product specific SOPs related to the analysis of the trace metals and pharmaceuticals
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements for a chemical laboratory
  • Resultoriented team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to
to liaise with other Life Science team members

  • Ability to work flexible hours as required to meet client deadlines; this may include weekend and evening shifts outside of normal business hours
