The Opportunity:


Accountabilities:


  • Supervise and direct all 911 Communications, fire prevention, training and other delegated support service programs of SJRFD;
  • Develop short and long term strategies and goals and objectives for the Division, and monitor to ensure success;
  • Plan, direct and monitor activities and divisional programs through effective utilization of human and financial resources within level and scope of authority;
  • Initiate, develop, implement and monitor training and professional development needs of the SJRFD in conjunction with the Deputy Chief of Operations (ie: AFFF, High Angle Rescue, Cold Water Rescue, Incident Command Hazard Materials, etc.);
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operational Procedures, Policies and Guidelines;
  • Provide oversight on the Occupational Health and Safety Committee, working in conjunction with the Deputy Chief of Operations and SJRFD OHS Committee;
  • Maintain knowledge of all current relevant legislation, policies, standards, etc.;
  • Share standby duties for emergency calls outside normal work hours and on weekends with the Deputy Chief of Operations;
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director/Chief.

Qualifications:


Successful completion of a diploma or degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Fire Services Management or related field from a recognized fire college or accredited organization combined with at least 10 years of experience in the Fire Service, including Fire command experience.

Supervisory experience at the rank of Platoon Chief or Captain is preferred but consideration will also be given to those on the Acting Captains list for a minimum of 3 years.

A proven ability to manage multiple Departmental services and programs and develop extensive alternate strategies within established deadlines; excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to interact with people at all levels and work with little supervision, and a thorough knowledge of firefighting techniques, operations and equipment, is required A combination of experience and education may be considered at the City's discretion.


Hours of Work:

Regular hours of work are 9:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday hours per week). The demands of the position can result in the need to work extra or irregular hours to meet objectives.
