Duties and Responsibilities:


Under the limited supervision of the Departmental Administrator and reporting to and consulting with the Departmental Chair and Graduate Programs Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the operation and administration of several graduate programs: PhD in Ethics and Public Affairs, two Graduate Diplomas in Ethics and Public Affairs, and an MA in Philosophy.

The incumbent supports the Graduate Programs Supervisor, faculty and students by providing advice on all aspects of graduate regulations, procedures and administrative matters associated with the programs; seeking out, compiling and providing information for long and short term planning purposes; providing advice on academic and administrative policy concerns, and planning and development processes; acting as a liaison and in an advisory capacity in all graduate matters with the Graduate Programs Supervisor; supporting the department's online presence through maintenance of departmental websites and social media accounts; and representing the Department at graduate administrative meetings.


The incumbent also provides support to the Departmental Administrator as required and has full responsibility for the Departmental Administrator's job duties in his/her absence.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills (i.e., the ability to understand and work with individuals) enable the incumbent to deal effectively with people and provide problem-solving answers proficiently.
  • Tact and discretion are required as this position deals with confidential, personal issues related to students.

Education and Experience:


The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Three years post-secondary education; a university degree is preferred
  • Four years' related administrative experience in a university academic department, preferably with experience in the field of graduate studies, admissions, advising.
  • Must have solid website and social media skills as the ability to create, update and revise information on the departmental website and social media sites is a requirement for performing this position.
