Part-Time Cleaner & Maintenance Assistant


Position Reports To:
Program Director
/Maintenance Supervisor


Location(s): 133 Simcoe St. South


Hourly Pay Rate:
From $17.47 to $20.12 over 5 grids (as per

Collective Agreement)


Shift Coverage Times:35 hours average per week

Some flexibility is required, including emergency coverage.

Public and Statutory Holiday coverage


Purpose of Position:

As a member of the maintenance team, this position is responsible for the provision of cleaning and maintenance services as an integral step in ensuring clean, safe, and hygienic facilities.

Reporting to the

Maintenance Supervisor, the Full-time Cleaner

Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day cleaning routine in the public areas of the building at 133

Simcoe Street South, 454 Bloor Street East, 440 Bloor

Street East and 121 Simcoe Street South when required.

This individual will also assist with specific cleaning and maintenance tasks as identified by the Maintenance

Supervisor who may modify duties listed below to accommodate such tasks.

This position will involve various shifts up to 40 hours per week with the possibility of additional hours from time to time.


Qualifications:
Provide and maintain an acceptable Police Criminal

Information Request with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Well groomed professional appearance.

Experience:

Six months of previous institutional cleaning experience along with previous light duty maintenance experience, knowledge and use of floor machines, and hand tools.


Education

  • WHMIS Training
    Infection control procedures:
  • First Aid and CPR Training Safe Work Practices
    Physical Demands
  • Required to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Standing/walking for long periods of t me.
  • Bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, and reaching.

Environment

  • Institutional setting; Emergency Shelter facility, Federal Corrections and Housing programs.

4) Use of tact and diplomacy when working near clients and staff while cleaning.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties may vary depending on the list of specifications required by program location.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


To follow required daily cleaning shift routine necessary to clean and maintain the interior/exterior of the building and surrounding grounds.

Sweep and mop, clean and disinfect all facility areas including all hallways, dormitories, washrooms, and office spaces.

Clean and disinfect washrooms and fixtures.

Wash windows, interior walls, and ceilings.

Operate vacuum cleaners to remove dirt, heavy debris, and refuse.

Empty trash cans and other waste containers.

Sweep, mop, scrub and wax hallways, floors, and stairs.

Clean apartment units, remove furniture and items.

Clean and vacuum all offices and hallways.

Conduct minor repairs, and painting etc. as directed by supervisor.

Cut grass and tend the grounds.

Clear snow and ice from entrances, walkways and parking areas and salting.

To complete daily records and all documentation such as, shift record, fire record, and checklists and logs as required (for example, daily, weekly, monthly, annually)

To attend staff training, in-services, meetings and staff development days and provide appropriate and constructive input.

To communicate work needs with other staff in an effective and comprehensive manner.

To maintain confidentiality of all resident information.


To demonstrate due diligence in ensuring the overall safety of the clients, staff and volunteers and to observe and adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety legislation in the workplace and document any concerns to your supervisor.

To wear all prescribed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE's) required by MSDS and CCA Policy, or as directed by supervisor.

To work through areas of personal conflict or morale with

Cornerstone Staff members.

Other duties as assigned.


NOTE:
A reliable vehicle is an asset by not mandatory.
