Alumni Career Assistant


The Alumni Career Assistant is a key member of the Alumni Relations team which is responsible for creating lasting connections with Mohawk College graduates and keeping them engaged as partners, ambassadors, volunteers, advocates, donors, mentors and learners.

Alumni Relations is part of the College's larger Marketing, Recruitment and Alumni Division.


Reporting to the Director, Alumni Relations, the Alumni Career Assistant is responsible for providing support for programming and events for students and recent alumni that foster career development and a smooth transition to career.

This involves activities that include career launch and personal and professional development that aid in the transition to life after Mohawk.


Responsibilities:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Student and Recent Alumni Career Development Programs
-
Responsible for supporting a diverse selection of career development programs

  • Assist Alumni Relations team to implement career focused programs, events and activities
  • Support with event administration, logistics, marketing and communication, registration and event day activities
  • Capture participant data
  • Communicate and network with college departments, external partners and organizations as required
  • Collaborate with campus programs and offices that are natural partners in the student engagement process to implement activities that will support student transition and skill development

Programs include but are not limited to:

  • Art of Career Networking
  • Etiquette Dinners
  • Alumni Speaker Program
  • Grad Send Off
  • Career Ready by Alumni
  • Student Leadership Development Series


  • Mo' Money

  • Wealthing Wednesdays

Graduating Student Classroom Presentations

Coordinate schedule for graduating class presentations

  • Communicate with faculty/staff to book presentations
  • Organize presentation logistics i.e., date, time, location, technical requirements, handouts
  • Capture participant data
  • Represent Alumni Relations on campus and at various student events.

Communications and Marketing

  • Ensure event messages and visuals for students and recent alumni audiences are consistently communicated in all mediums and are clear, concise and visually appealing and align with Mohawk's brand
  • Support development and circulation of monthly Career enewsletter

Liaises, Collaborates and Communicates with Internal College Departments, External Partners as Required

Maintains confidentiality of information

Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:


  • 2year diploma in a related field of study, such as Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing and Advertising, etc.
  • 2 years of experience working in career development and/or special events
  • Experience in event management is an asset
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge database, project management software, and online registration systems an asset
  • The ability to work under mínimal supervision while utilizing effective time management skills in order to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities is required
  • Good organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Professionalism and discretion with sensitive and confidential information
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community
