Reporting to the Rentals and Retail Manager, this is a full-time seasonal position working Sept to May.

Flexibility in shifts is important; during the off-season shifts are days from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday, once Mt Seymour is operational, shifts move to working 5 days out of 7 including evenings and weekends.


Reporting to the Rentals and Retail Manager this position will take responsibility for the operation and management of the retail operation, which will include planning, budgeting, purchasing, sourcing, and operating the retail department which will also include hiring, training and supervising a small team of seasonal retail employees.

In addition, this position will also cover some Duty Management shifts for the overall operation of the Rental and Retail Department.

A key focus of this position is working as a part of a team to support service excellence.


Responsibilities:


  • Uphold Mt. Seymour's vision & mission statement.
  • Comply with all Mt. Seymour policies and procedures as set out in the Employee Handbook, Rental/Retail Staff Handbook and Policy folder on the Bulletin Board.
  • Overall responsibility for Mt Seymour's retail operation.
  • Duty Management shifts covering the overall operation of Mt Seymour's Rental and Retail Operation.
  • Long term planning and goal setting for the Retail Operation.
  • Business development and sales growth.

Duties:


  • Overall management of the Retail Department which will involve being available outside of regular shifts to respond to problems and challenges during the operating season December to Early April.
  • Support the Rentals Department Management Team as required.
  • Prepare and deliver preseason and ongoing training to retail staff, updating training manuals on an annual basis.
  • Hire and train a seasonal retail team and provide on going supervision throughout the season including scheduling, coaching etc.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Rental and Retail Manager regarding retail operations, including attending meetings, providing reports, daily check ins etc.
  • Oversee and execute all retail purchasing ensuring appropriate product selection, inventory levels and pricing/profitability.
  • Work closely with the Marketing manager regarding product design. Logos and graphic design.
  • Create an inventory system for retail sales; submit monthly inventory reports to accounting, review results of the system specific to theft and profitable sales items.
  • Be proficient in all Point of Sales systems utilized by the retail department and be able to operate the systems, generate reports and cash out.
  • Supervise, lead and coach all staff members in their effort to follow their personal strategic map.
  • Work with the Marketing Department on a continual basis to ensure promotion of retail outlets, especially our Logo "Brand" articles.
  • Meet regularly with suppliers and strive to source new and innovative products for sales, create and implement a seasonal buying cycle.
  • Perform other related activates as required.

Qualifications:
 Post-secondary education
 Minimum 5 years' experience in a retail environment.
 Experience with purchasing.
 Experience in or understanding of the Ski/snowboard/ Resort industry as it relates to products, clothing and equipment.
 Experience with merchandising and retail display.
 Creative with the ability to generate or source strong design ideas/ innovative product lines
 Previous supervisory experience ideally in a retail setting.
 Well organized, with good time management skills.
 Ability to work independently.
 Good communication skills
 Strong computer skills, ability to use excel.
 Excellent Guest Service Skills
