Summary:


Bartender creates a positive dining experience through food and beverage knowledge and the ability to adhere to the Rideau Club service standards.

He or She strives for excellence and creates memorable dining experiences for our members and their guests in every interaction.


Job Duties:


  • Acknowledge Members and their Guests.
  • Understand and be able to execute a vast knowledge of current mixology trends
  • Good wine knowledge. Understanding of current wine list and dining menus
  • Responsibly prepare and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages
  • Distributes menus and serves food where required
  • Records daily specials and is well informed of upcoming or current events
  • Reports complaints, concerns or incidents immediately to the supervisor as they occur
  • Attends staff meetings/preshift meetings as required
  • Provide superior member service while maintaining a clean and neat bar area
  • Using a bar opening checklist; ensure adequate supplies are available and par levels are maintained
  • Make adjustments based on daily reservations or business needs
  • Follow setup procedures and requirements for handling storage and dispensing beverages while maintaining club standards
  • Prepare garnishes and mixes
  • Mix, prepare and serve drinks according to recipes
  • Enter and close all chits in the computer system following appropriate POS procedures
  • Handle member complaints and advise the Manager/Supervisor on duty immediately
  • Perform cleanup and closing duties as per the closing checklist
  • Maintain all bar service areas, complete side duties, cleaning and other organizational job duties during slower periods
  • Be wellinformed and be able to talk to Members about current and upcoming events
  • Record spillage/waste as it occurs and track it in the log book provided
  • Lock up according to the closing procedure
  • Communicate with the Supervisor/Manager regarding supplies, cleaning and service
  • Always be a team player, have a positive attitude and be willing to learn
  • Assist with monthly inventory counts.
  • Ensure all empties and recyclables are sorted out and placed in proper bins
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:


  • Perform manual labor for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable working conditions.
  • Walk an average of two to five (25) kilometers a day.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, stoop, and walk for up to five hours at a time, while using service equipment, including but not limited to carrying trays, glasses, and tableware.
  • Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to lift, move and carry objects weighing up to thirty (30) pounds and to repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing more than thirty (30) pounds with assistance independently and repeatedly.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Health and Safety:


  • Enforce all safety policies and procedures. Ensure that employees comply with OHSA and its regulations. Correct any employee who is observed breaking a safety rule. Any employee who continues to violate safety rules should be progressively disciplined immediately. Commend employee and supervisor health and safety performance.
  • Detect and eliminate, or report for correction, all physical hazards and unsafe conditions immediately by completing a Hazard Report Form.
  • Ensure that all employees use or wear any equipment, protective devices or clothing required under the Health & Safety Program.
  • Reinstruct and document all regular employees who develop unsafe work practices immediately after such practices are observed.
  • Investigate all employee accidents thoroughly and immediately. Get the facts from the injured worker and witnesses and fill out the necessary report forms promptly and completely. Submit these forms to the GM/COO and Club payroll administrator within 24 hours for processing.
  • When applicable, insist on immediate first aid for employee injuries. Maintain department first aid stations.
  • Actively cooperate with the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Insist on good housekeeping and enforce the "Clean As You Go" policy.
  • Maintain active involvement in the accomplishment of the accident prevention and reduction objective assigned to the department. Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of employees.
  • Be familiar with the OHSA, specifically sections 25, 26, 27, 28, 36, 51 and 52.

Education, Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Previous experience, minimum of two years as a Bartender
  • Hospitality and/or Bartending Certificate
  • Wine Certification will be an asset or willing to acquire
  • Excellent communication skills required
  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Strong interpersonal and problemsolving abilities.
