Kennedy House (KH) is a not-for-profit organization with a long-standing dedication to providing exceptional personalized care for youth in the Greater Toronto Area for over 50 years.

KH started with an initial family-like group home in 1971 and currently operates several residential and community-based programs, for marginalized and at-risk youth, including:


  • One residential home for young people in care;
  • Three homes for youth and young adults living with developmental disabilities;
  • A Day Treatment school program for youth struggling in the typical school setting;
  • Kennedy House Youth Centre, a secure custody facility for male youth experiencing conflict with the law;
  • Bailiff services to safely and securely transport youth experiencing conflict with the law;
  • Kennedy House After School Program for children aged 413 in underserved communities throughout Scarborough; and
  • Kennedy House Youth Shelter, for youth aged 1624 experiencing homelessness.

***Kennedy House is looking for dynamic, results-driven, and team oriented individuals to join our team in the role of Program Supervisor. There are two vacancies.


The KH - Youth Justice Division is a 24/7 secure custody/detention facility for male youth that have either been charged or currently awaiting sentencing of a serious crime committed in the community.

A serious crime, is a crime that if committed by an adult a sentence of five years or more will be awarded.


Reporting to the Program Coordinator and indirectly to the Superintendent, the incumbent will be part of a dynamic supervisory team that implements and maintains the overall functioning of the Centre.

The Program Supervisor will promote Agency philosophy, adhering to the program design and demonstrating sound management skills in the pursuit of objectives and goals.

This is a full-time on-site position located at our Youth Centre in Ajax, Ontario.

The Program Supervisor will work an average of 40 hours per week and will require being flexible to best meet the needs of the Program staff and clients, including but not limited to, working days, afternoons, overnights, and weekends shifts, as well as being on-call.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees staff training and supervision
  • Attends and participates in meetings such as management, unit, staff, and case management
  • Participates in resident care including the intake process and overseeing the direct care provided by frontline staff
  • Closely oversees the case management and treatment plans implemented by staff and monitor these plans to ensure they are achieving their desired effect and are strength based
  • Makes certain that all documentation is completed promptly, accurately and distributed to the appropriate parties
  • Plays a significant role in the successful implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of several clinical groups at the Centre
  • Role models appropriate and necessary cognitive behavioural interventions with young persons in order to support frontline staff in their development
  • Intervenes during emergencies (of a medical, safety or security nature) and activate appropriate precautionary and contingency plans
  • Provides on call support on a rotating basis
  • Performs other duties as required

EDUCATION

  • College Diploma in Child and Youth Worker/Corrections Diploma or a University Degree in youth justice studies or related field with emphasis in behaviour management, adolescent development, and knowledge of family group dynamics

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years in a
    supervisory role with additional 2+ years frontline experience
  • Management skills: demonstrated organizational, communication, decisionmaking and leadership abilities and proven ability lead a diverse group
  • Experience in treatment settings; skilled in individual counseling and group work
  • Prior experience specifically related to working with youth experiencing conflict with the law. This may include placement experience.
  • Knowledge of various youth justice related legislation (i.e. Youth Criminal Justice Act, Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Human Rights Code)
  • Knowledge of various sociological issues impacting on youth (e.g. poverty, family violence and abuse, sexual abuse, substance abuse, gang involvement, peeronpeer violence; racial issues; and societal issues that put youth at risk of offending behaviour; and human rights issues)
  • Knowledge of mental health and behavioural disorders, abnormal and deviant psychology, symptoms and causes of deviant behaviour, and cognitive behavioural interventionphilosophy and techniques, as well as, knowledge and understanding of youth/adolescent development
