KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Investments

  • Enhance and update financial models of annual plan and quarterly budget for balance of investment assets and investment income.
  • Work with external investment managers for timely update of market information.
  • Enhance financial models to capture the features of asset classes and best practices of industry forecast methodologies.
  • Track and monitor book yield, market yield, return on required regulatory capital by asset class.
  • Create reports to facilitate communication with senior management and regulators.
  • Work with actuarial team to enhance the model tailored for specific features of current investment holdings for annual stresstesting.
  • Work with Finance Manager, Capital, and Investments, to automate the book of record of the company's investment portfolio.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly reporting package on investments to the board and investment committee.
  • Work closely with Director of Capital and Investments, and external investment managers, to provide ad hoc and regular analysis to facilitate communication, decisionmaking on maximizing return on investment portfolio while minimizing risks.

Capital

  • Provide ad hoc and regular analysis to track the impacts of key drivers on regulatory mortgage insurance risk capital charges.
  • Provide analysis on quarteroverquarter capital charges by key drivers.
  • Work with actuarial team to understand the variance of forecast versus actual capital charges by key drivers.
  • Estimate the impact of market and regulatory changes e.g., interest rate changes, on capital requirements.
  • Participate in reviewing the content and impact of OSFIs proposed changes of regulatory capital framework and work closely with the Director of Capital and Investments to analyze, document, and communicate impacts and recommendations to the regulator.
  • Participate in analyzing capital implications of tactical and strategic business options.
  • Assist in the implementation of changes to regulatory capital reporting.
  • Assist in developing and implementing internal control policies and procedures as needed.
  • Provide information and clarification on regulatory capital and investments during internal and external audits.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all regulatory capital standards and financial reporting standards related to investments.
  • Perform other duties and assist with special projects, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong commitment to excellence and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to communicate complex information and ideas both verbally and in writing in a succinct, organized manner, and communicate well at all levels.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable Canada Guaranty policies and OSFI guidelines as well as financial reporting standards.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate accountability.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and regularly meet strict deadlines in a fastpaced environment.
  • Demonstrate support for change.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education

  • University degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer, Finance or Economics. A related master's degree is considered an asset.
  • Indepth knowledge and understanding of stress testing and scenario analysis methodologies and frameworks.
  • Current accreditation or working towards CPA, CFA, FRM designation or other related degree or designation is an Asset.

Experience

  • Minimum three years progressive experience in building financial and risk models, preferably in financial / insurance / mortgage industry.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, and Word.
