Operations Technical Lead - Peterborough, Ontario (Hybrid work arrangement available)**
About the Opportunity

What will you do?

Your day to day:

  • Lead technical response to RFQs including contributions to proposal submissions, leading the costing exercise, development of execution strategy, etc.
  • Grow and lead the technical team supporting the needs of the local manufacturing operations.
  • Lead the development and optimization of processes that enhance our operational effectiveness
  • Provide technical guidance with respect to interpretation of relevant codes/standards applicable to manufacturing scopes of work
  • Support resolution of emergent technical challenges during manufacturing processes
  • Liaise with Westinghouse counterparts on requests for support to other plants and global initiatives, and provide engineering leadership for the local team on those initiatives (e.g. eVinci)
  • Represent the Peterborough operation in customer engagements related to current and prospective customer contracts
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering team to identify optimum methods for manufacturing, resolve manufacturability concerns, and refine the execution approach.
  • Engage with the other Westinghouse teams for support on large scale needs.
  • Mentoring/coaching of junior members of the team

What will you bring?

Who you are:

  • Licensed P.Eng. member of Professional Engineers Ontario (Mechanical preferred)
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience in an equipment manufacturing environment
  • Experience in the design of custom equipment, typically: steel structures, hoisting systems, mechanical drive/positioning systems and shielded containers.
  • Experience in design/fabrication of pressure retaining systems to CSA and ASME design codes.
  • Experience in conceptual design development, design reviews and engineering change control processes.
  • Experience interfacing with customer representatives and providing oversight of vendors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations.
  • Knowledge and experience working to nuclear quality assurance programs that meet the requirements of CAN/CSA-N285.0 or NQA
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment.

Preferred:

  • Application of the relevant codes and standards applicable to the design of nuclear components and systems including specialized tooling and remote handling equipment.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks and Solid Edge.
  • Knowledge of FEA using software such as ANSYS.
  • Knowledge of CanDU operating plants, including reactor components, supporting systems and balance of plant equipment.


This is a challenging, senior level position that will require a solid technical background and extensive experience in the industry.
