The
Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Advisor is responsible for the coordination and support of all OHS activities. The OH&S Advisor will oversee compliance for safe work conditions and acts for all employees, contractors, and visitors.

This includes coaching and mentoring workers to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage while ensuring compliance to all applicable Occupational Health & Safety legislations.

Providing guidance and where needed, direction, for all safe actions while adhering to the internal responsibility system.


WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Maintains safety programs, ensuring alignment with the corporate safety program and compliance with all applicable Occupational Health & Safety codes and standards.
  • Monitors existing and incoming legislation and regulations on health and safety to ensure program alignment within the respective safety programs.
  • Provides coaching, education, and training to workers and regularly verifies that tasks are being completed safely.
  • Supports a collaborative and psychologically safe working culture by partnering with business leaders and employees to build positive relationships.
  • Completes investigations into injuries, accidents, unsafe acts and conditions by identifying root cause(s), preventative and corrective actions, and ensuring their effective implementation.
  • Oversees the development of safe work practices by partnering with management and worker representatives on OH&S Committees. Ensuring all work practices meet the minimum standards required by applicable legislation.
  • Works with Senior Vice President of HSE, and applicable business leaders, to develop specific safety objectives and create action plans to meet the approved objectives.
  • Reports, completes followup and manages all Workers Compensation Board (WCB) cases.
  • Assists in the development, analysis, and testing of building Emergency Response Plans.
  • Oversees the hazard reporting program and its effective use.
  • Completes and oversees the new hire safety orientation.
  • Supports the Contractor Safety Management ("CSM") ensuring adherence to the CSM Program.
  • Travels as required to provide coaching and mentoring to field teams and to audit components of the safety program.

WHAT WILL YOU NEED?

  • Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Minimum 35 years of safety experience (safety experience in field construction would be considered an asset)
  • Must be willing to travel to locations across the supporting companies
  • Valid Drivers' License with clean driver's abstract and reliable vehicle.
  • Must complete & pass a criminal record check.
