The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager of Tier 4 Outreach Services, Mental Health and Addictions, the master's prepared social worker will ensure the provision of evidence-based treatment and care coordination for children and youth with complex needs, typically involved with multi-agencies, both internal and external to the Mental Health and Addictions program.

Using the Adaptive Mentalizing Based Integrative Treatment (AMBIT) approach, the incumbent will support the client's existing treatment teams and system partners to facilitate the coordination of service providers in order to promote the adaptive functioning of the client and network.

The clinical social worker will provide direct and/or consultative services with clients, their families, support networks, and community partners, utilizing mentalization as an evidence-based approach to interventions.

The clinical social worker will be responsible to liaise with a wide range of health, government, and other services within our community.

In working with these partners, the emphasis is on building collaborative partnerships, facilitating resource acquisition, and advocating for appropriate resources to meet the client's needs using the AMBIT framework.

This position will support program development, further fostering relationships amongst stakeholders, and other evaluation activities.

The position will be based in Bedford and requires regular local and provincial travel to meet clients, families, and stakeholders.


Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday; 8:30am - 4:30pm. Occasional evening work required.


Your Qualifications:


Masters Degree in Social Work and two (2) years related clinical experience working with youth as a Masters Prepared Social Worker required.

Professional registration (in good standing) or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers required.
Clinical experience in a variety of treatment modalities in a community mental health and addictions setting required.
Experience in the coordination and development of client-centered care plans with high acuity clients and families required.
Experience in Mental Health and Community Based Case Management required.
Demonstrated understanding of the child welfare system.

Demonstrated skills in collaboration, consultation, liaise and negotiation with clients/families, team members, service providers, community support services, inpatient services, and other partners.

Strong competency in the development of complex case formulation and articulation in sharing formulation with key stakeholders.
Ability to facilitate and nurture network cohesion to address system dis-integration.
Demonstrated experience in the assessment and treatment of child and youth mental health and addictions required. Knowledge and experience with DSM-IV.
Demonstrated flexible and creative working style to meet clients and families 'where they are at'.
Comprehensive understanding of community-based services and resources required.
Ability to function autonomously and within the inter-professional team.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
Excellent time management and organizational skills required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification (NVCI).
Must have a valid NS Drivers License, regular use of a reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance. Travel to various communities within Halifax Regional Municipality, as well as some travel to other districts is required.
Competencies in other languages an asset.
