About the Role


We are seeking a
Resource Worker - Adoption and Permanency to be responsible for direct counselling and other practical and concrete services to clients using appropriate techniques and methods of social work practice primarily in the areas of permanency and adoption.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide individual, family or group counselling to clients using a range of appropriate methodologies and techniques to best meet client needs
  • Maintain an understanding of legislation and government prescribed procedures, regulations and standards of the applicable JF&CS/Child Welfare programs
  • Provide counselling and/or referrals services to clients inquiring about adoption, and to those clients who request medical/social birth histories
  • Develop ongoing referral relationships within the health, education, legal and social services system
  • Conduct home study assessments in order to identify adequate adoption placements
  • Provide post adoption counselling and adoption background information
  • Prepare court and Ministry related documentation for finalization of adoptions
  • Compile sealed adoption files of a nonidentifying medical/social birth history
  • Advocate on behalf of clients outside the Agency to obtain adoption records where they do not exist within the Agency (e.g. Ministry of Children and Youth Services and/or Children's Aid Society, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelors in Social Work or equivalent degree
  • 3 years' experience in adoption or child welfare related position
  • Registered Social Worker will be considered an asset
  • Administrative and clinical experience within the social services field
  • The ability to establish rapport, credibility and build strong relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Extensive knowledge of the Child & Family and Youth Services Act in Ontario, the field of adoption and the relevant child welfare legislation in Ontario concerning this area
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
