    Major Responsibilities: Under the direction of Civil Engineering Technologist and reporting to the Supervisor, Utility Mapping, the incumbent will prepare, revise and maintain Civil/Utility mapping using CAD and GIS tools.

    • Investigates, researches and conducts studies. Collects and analyzes data and prepares reports. Responds to complaints and inquiries.
    • Prepares sketches, technical designs and elevations. Reads and interprets technical drawings. Ensures contractors are performing construction in accordance with permits, safety regulations and according to tenders and specifications.
    • Transforms information from plans into digital data. Maintains and updates data.
    • Collects samples for analysis by laboratory, inspect conditions of roads, sidewalks, pipes etc. for proper function and condition.
    • Attends on site meetings with contractors, utility companies, etc. regarding construction and repairs on capital projects. Arranges stake-outs and checks drawings to ensure locations are clear. Conducts field inspections and evaluates condition of facilities and sites.
    • Operate and maintain a variety of mechanical, digital, analogue, wireless, computerized and other equipment to perform e.g. surveys, drafting, calculations, diagnostics, repairs, studies.
    • Prepares and checks map data and products using Computer Assistant Design and Drawing (CADD).
    • Prepares and edits technical drawings in CADD environment.
    • Collects, maintains and analyzes data and prepares reports making recommendations. Responds to complaints and inquiries.
    • Performs land surveys as part of a field crew. Operates equipment and performs field work. Procures goods and/or services as required.
    • Monitors, for environmental conditions, i.e. landfill gases and water quality.

    Key Qualifications:

    Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

    • Post-secondary education in Surveying or Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
    • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings
    • Experience identifying and displaying public utility features.
    • Experience in the operation of CADD and GIS, such as Microstation, Bentley Map, Oracle Database, MS Access, Arc GIS, FME, related to the drafting and mapping of various utilities (including road, water, sewer, telephone, cable, gas, electricity, etc.)
    • Experience plotting public utility features from as-built drawings, or plans and sketches.

    You must also have:

    • Ability to work in a highly demanding work environment with many competing priorities and deadlines.
    • Ability to interact and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to establish effective and strong working relationships and trust with multiple stakeholders including Unit and Division staff, client divisions, outside agencies, politicians, and other orders of government.
    • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
    • Familiarity with Federal and Provincial regulations and requirements, and the Occupational Health & Safety.
    • Knowledge of projection systems and datums.
