We are hiring a full-time, permanent

Specialist, Consolidated Management Reporting position working out of Edmonton, AB.


The Specialist, Consolidated Management Reporting is a key team member of the Corporate Finance function and is responsible for supporting the external financial reporting process and the internal budget and forecasting process.

The Specialist is also accountable for identifying and implementing process improvements that provide valuable eff primarily accountable for preparing monthly financial results for Senior Management and preparing quarterly external financial results, including Management Discussion & Analysis and media releases, for approval by the Board.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Identification and implementation of best practices to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Corporate Finance processes to mitigate risks while ensuring compliance with policies, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Preparation of consolidated budget and forecasts variance analysis and presentation working papers in collaboration with the Manager, Financial Reporting and all Business Units.
  • Preparing and/ or reviewing consolidated working papers to support the financial information being presented in EPCOR's Consolidated Financial Statements.
  • Crosstraining with other Finance team members to allow for development and succession planning including preparation of period end cash flows, consolidation and financial statement preparation.
  • Preparation of the internal monthly consolidated financial results for Senior Management, and quarterly financial results for the Audit Committee.
  • Preparation of external financial information including EPCOR's quarterly media release, Management Discussion & Analysis and other external reports for approval by the Board.
  • Exercising confidentiality, influence and decision making with regards to prepublicly disclosed information on business development activities and variance explanations of a sensitive nature.
  • Providing input and recommendations to Senior Management regarding how preliminary agreements and contracts for new acquisitions/divestitures are written.
  • Ensuring completion and reconciliation of intercompany elimination entries, as well as GST, income tax, deferred taxes and other transactions required.
  • Providing support and assistance in responding to inquiries from EPCOR's auditors.
  • Identifying accounting issues, performing research, and considering impacts of issues on consolidated reporting practices and internal controls, including recommending solutions, and communicating accounting impacts to key personnel.
  • Supervision and guidance provided to temporary resources, including internal employees seconded from other business units.
  • Demonstrating a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievementoriented, easy to do business with manner of working.
What's required to be successful

  • Diploma or Degree (or Equivalent) in Business, Finance or Accounting from a recognized postsecondary institution is required.
  • An accredited accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA and CGA) is required.
  • 6+ years of directly related and progressively responsible professional accounting experience including external reporting for public companies.
  • Audit experience with larger public companies and/or regulated utilities will be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, OfficeConnect and database software (Oracle Business Intelligence and Adaptive Insight preferred).
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and Regulatory accounting practices and policies.
  • Good understanding of current IFRS accounting guidance and policies.
  • Understanding of EPCOR Financial Processes will be considered an asset.
  • Understanding and demonstrated experience of Oracle financial system and related support systems, specifically Oracle General Ledger, Business Intelligence, Adaptive Insights and Office Connect, will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify improvements to processes and procedures and to deliver successful change.
  • Ability to work independently and support team initiatives.
  • A keen attention to detail with excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • High degree of tact and ability to guide and influence others at multiple levels of the organization to achieve required outcomes.
