TransEd Valley line LRT is looking for Track/OCS Technician to join their team of Rail Professionals. Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, the Track/OCS Technician will shall provide technical field support for testing, commissioning, modification, repairs, operation, preventative and corrective measures, and maintenance of track work and overhead catenary system (OCS) equipment.

TransEd Valley Line LRT is the first piece of the Valley Line project in Edmonton.

Connecting Millwoods to downtown Edmonton, the Valley Line allows commuters to go from the South East of Edmonton to any where the LRT stops.


A typical day for the Track/OCS Technician

  • Provide technical expertise to subcontractors, project team members and less experienced personnel. Responsible for troubleshooting of switches and OCS components,
  • Operation of portable test equipment, testing devices, and special equipment towards execution of support activities.
  • Execute all requested activities safely. The PI technician shall ensure all information, equipment and parts are available and prepared, to ensure efficient execution.
  • Undertaking duties and encourage others to undertake duties in accordance with the Mission and Visions of the TransEd River Valley LRT system;
  • Performs a variety of technical field assignments such as installation, test, operation and maintenance of track and OCS.
  • Investigates the causes of equipment/subsystem failures and develops alternate solutions
  • Creates incidents in Maximo as a measure to note the failure, and generates work order (WO) to document results of investigations and execution. Devises test procedures to evaluate system performance and performs failure analysis on parts to be returned for repair; Document parts replacement information in MMIS
  • Design test/investigation methods and test setup.
  • Monitoring the achieving the business objectives and performance targets of the Department in accordance with the Annual Business Plan;
  • Ensuring compliance with internal audit processes, regulations and recommendations;
  • Ensuring compliance with legislative requirements required under laws or as dictated by the Government;
  • Ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental policies for TransED;
  • Carrying out maintenance activities on the assigned subsystem in accordance with maintenance procedures and work instructions;
  • Conducting simple failure analysis and technical investigation, rectifying defects and discrepancies;
  • Ensuring outputs are delivered to an appropriate standard within the planned schedules.

What you will bring to the team

  • Possess a vocational qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering;
  • Minimum 2 year of experience in a technical environment preferably in a maintenance workshop environment.
  • Experience with 750 volt DC power supply systems
  • Highly experienced technical specialist with expertise and knowledge in electromechanic equipment. Experience on railroad equipment is highly desired
  • Exceptional computer skills
  • Highly motivated and flexible to work in a timesensitive environment;
  • Excellent communication skills and inter personnel skills;
  • Excellent logical and analytical reasoning ability, and capable of making complex decisions;
  • Ability to set strategies, plans and systems for the department;
  • Committed to continuous improvement in the department processes and personnel;
  • High level of safety awareness.
  • Good judgement & effective in solving practical problems, responds quick, calmly and appropriately to emergency situations;
  • Demonstrate an ability to work efficiently in an unsupervised environment;
  • Demonstrate a strong health, safety, quality, and environmental mindset;
  • Previous experience within rail transit or rail transportation industry considered an asset;
  • Experience or certifications such as Fork Lift, Fall Arrest, working at heights, etc.
  • Experience working in a LEED certified facility;
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure and adapt to constant change.
  • Valid Class "5" driver's license for the province of Alberta air brake endorsement and Class "3" are considered assets
  • Understands the use of basic PPE

  • Exposed to all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
  • Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lefts, bends, and moves objects up to 50 pounds
