TransEd Valley line LRT is looking for an LRV Technician to join their team of Rail Professionals. Vehicle Technician is responsible for performing regular inspections of all LRV equipment checking for proper performance; detects and diagnoses faults or malfunctions to determine extent of repairs required; performs repair and routine maintenance; operates systems as required; performs related administrative duties such as the preparation and closure of maintenance work orders, ordering of parts, fuel, etc. processing of paperwork, checking invoices for accuracy and forwarding for approval and payment; responds to OCC calls and requests for information.

TransEd Valley Line LRT is the first piece of the Valley Line project in Edmonton.

Connecting Millwoods to downtown Edmonton, the Valley Line allows commuters to go from the South East of Edmonton to any where the LRT stops.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of all LRV equipment ensuring that all equipment is performing properly
  • Perform preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on LRV equipment
  • Follow diagnostic procedures and repair faulty equipment
  • Record and report all work orders and the execution/ completion in appropriate MMIS.
  • Investigate and record all incidents of electromechanical equipment/subsystem failures and perform preliminary trouble shooting, contact engineering or supplier for solution if necessary.
  • Participate in investigations of failures, assist Engineering with analysis.
  • Report any damage or shortage of parts/tools to the logistic department to request replacement part or order spares and/or consumables, tools etc.
  • Safely operate shop equipment such as Cranes, Bogie bench, and LRV associated equipment
  • Responsible to complete all work in accordance with Operations and Maintenance Procedures while adhering to safety protocols
  • Respond to OCC maintenance issue call outs to ensure customer service level agreement is met
  • Conduct orientation and issue work permits and isolations to contractors, and internal personnel
  • Comply with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to: environmental, health and safety, risk management, and fire protection requirements;
  • Provide assistance to Facility Maintenance where applicable and required

  • A good understanding of, maintaining awareness of and following relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, TransEd Operation rule book, standard operation procedures, health, safety and environmental requirements and instructions within own role and organization.
  • Continuously monitors area of responsibility to ensure compliance with legislation and TransEd safety procedures. Overall responsibility of passengers, staff and goods to enable compliance with regulations through safe and effective rail operation.
  • Maintains an awareness and follows TransEd emergency, accident/incident plan, policy and procedures.
  • Constructively challenges unsafe practice at all levels and report through the necessary channels.
  • Informs/alerts the control centre to any hazards which have been spotted along the route.
  • Understands the risk of ill health and the impact of wellbeing on the safety of an individual, others at work and the public. Understands strategies for fatigue management e.g., sleep quality, and stress management.
  • Manages own fitness to enable work to be carried out competently in order to reduce the risk to health and safety to self and all stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of requirements and process for ensuring rail safety and security on the line, at stations and depots.
  • Constantly maintains a secure environment and responds to security issues and takes appropriate action in the event of a breach of security as accordance with company safe operation procedures, policies and safe systems of work.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma. A combination of education and work experience will be considered;
  • 1 to 2 years' experience as a Rail Vehicle Technician;
  • Minimum four years experience in an industrial setting requiring knowledge and skills in the maintenance and repair of electromechanical systems and/ or related electrical systems;
  • Acquired competency in mechanical and electronic systems required;
  • Educational background in mechanical, electrical or electromechanical systems considered an asset;
  • Demonstrable mechanical aptitude as well as manual dexterity skills;
  • Knowledge and understanding of fleet systems, associated braking, lubrication and cooling systems;
  • Equipment troubleshooting and resolution skills;
  • An aptitude and comfort in using diagnostic computer systems and software;
  • Familiarity with a Centralized Maintenance Management System;
  • Experience in providing high quality service to customers & good interpersonal relationships;
  • Good judgement & effective in solving
