Assistant Supervisor - After School Program
Full Time (37.5 hours), Monday to Friday


Accountable to:
Licensing Supervisor & Program Director


Directs Activities of:
Childcare Educators, Assistants, Students and Volunteers in the After School Program


Oakville Parent-Child Centre is looking for a dynamic, Educator who is interested in contributing to the well-being of children by leading high quality after school programs, licensed under the CCEYA. Responsibilities:


  • Create, maintain and oversee an environment that protects the health, security, and wellbeing of children
  • Supervise the daily After School Program, while participating in the delivery of the program in conjunction with other educators, providing teaching support and educator supervision, scheduling, and ongoing care of the children.
  • Provide quality programming to children following the ELECT Curriculum with emphasis on the children's interest that promotes the overall wellbeing of children's physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development
  • Understand and implement OPCC's program statement including the four foundations of How Does Learning Happen in the program
  • Adhere to and ensure the compliance of all government regulations and requirements including CCEYA, Public Health, Region of Halton and Quality First
  • Support inclusion of children with special needs, working collaboratively with their parents/caregivers and community professionals
  • Commit to raising quality care indicators through participating in the Quality First Initiative
  • Develop, implement and oversee an emergent curriculum
  • Provide first point of contact for families and educators while establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with colleagues (RECEs and/or Assistants), parents, Resource Consultants, school representative (Principal) and community professionals working with children
  • Build upon the foundational knowledge into deeper reflection and investigation of children's thinking, development, and the role of the educator using the Provincial documents "How Does Learning Happen?", "Think Feel Act" and "ELECT"
  • Responsible for program administrative duties and management e.g. printing off attendance, following up on missing information, contacting families when child is absent etc.
  • Create documentation for the program, and review colleague's documentation, ensuring completion for parents and children, making learning visible
  • Participate in the completion of the monthly Reflection, and review colleague's Reflection, ensuring completion for families
  • Utilize a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, active listening, observing, questioning, demonstrating, supporting, and encouraging children; supporting educators with these techniques when necessary
  • Observe children for the purpose of creating learning opportunities that promote development within social, emotional, cognitive, language, sensory and physical domains
  • Create an atmosphere which builds upon individual learning styles, interests, and celebrates the cultural and ethnic diversity of the children and their families
  • Maintain and ensure completion of accurate daily record keeping of attendance sheets, daily log books, accident and illness reports, administration of emergency medication, water flushing, sanitary practices, individual plans, integration binders, emergency procedures, planning sheets and displays in classroom as appropriate
  • Responsible for purchasing materials and supplies for the program within the available budget
  • Complete and review educator's monitoring compliance of the program statement and performance appraisals as required
  • Oversee ECE students and complete evaluations forms as required; supervise student and cooperating educator to ensure completion; connect with college/university when needed
