Mining Product Support Internship Program Details:

Caterpillar offers a unique opportunity within our Canada Mining Product Support organization to allow students to gain a wealth of real-world practical experience and establish core competencies.

Product Support Engineering professionals across the enterprise help our dealers and customers succeed in their business through the promotion and selling of products and services to the industries we serve.

As a Mining Product Support Intern you will have a technical marketing and product support role, focused on ensuring our products and services deliver superior experience for our dealers and customers.

You will have personal development and networking opportunities as well as visibility to future roles within Caterpillar.


The primary role of a Product Support intern is to assist Canadian based field teams that work with Cat dealers and customers with technical support of large machine base including Large Mining Trucks, Hydraulic Mining Shovels, Wheel Loaders, Underground Load Haul Dumps and more.

Duties will include coordination of Product Problem Management activities, pursing Continuous Product Improvement opportunities including root cause failure analysis investigation and failure history analysis.

Specialties within Product Support Engineering include but are not limited to:

  • Channel Capability & Support
  • Aftermarket & Service Learning
  • Field Technical Support
  • Site Performance Management
  • Parts & Service Information
  • Service Operations
  • Quality & Service Engineering
  • Lifecycle Management


As a function of this role you may be expected to travel to Caterpillar facilities, dealer branch locations and customer mine sites.

It is important to note that some customer and dealer sites have policies which indicate that you must retain full vaccination status as per Health Canada regulations to access their sites.

While Caterpillar does not mandate vaccination status, we must respect and comply with protocols and procedures at our dealers and customers locations.

We have two positions available. One for a 2023 spring graduate and a second for a spring 2024 graduate.


Internship Program Qualifications:


  • Must be enrolled full time at a 4year accredited university/college in one of the following degree programs: Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or General Engineering, Technical or related business/technical field
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0 (no rounding)

Graduating Spring 2023 / Spring 2024:

  • Must be willing & able to be relocated by Caterpillar to indicated work location for duration of internship.

Desired Qualifications:


  • Mining, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering degrees or similar preferred
  • Previous experience/demonstrated abilities in the following areas:
  • Project Management
  • Hands on technical maintenance and repair experience
  • Interest and desire to be present in the field interfacing with dealers and customers
  • Strong initiative, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Highly organized
  • Previous experience within the following areas:
  • Construction Equipment
  • Mining Equipment
  • Diesel Equipment
Relocation / housing for the period of the internship is available for this position.
