Ridley College is looking for a Horticulture Technician to assist the Grounds team in the development and maintenance of Ridley's gardens and ornamental plant collection as per industry standards and snow removal services.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains gardens, plants and trees which includes planting, weeding, watering, fertilizing, mulching, edging, etc.;
Assists in the planting of garden areas throughout the growing season including indoor/outdoor planters;
Monitors plants for insect and disease and follows protocol for treatment;
Assists in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems;
Collects refuse and debris from campus;
Clears ice and snow off roadways, sidewalks, stairs, fire escapes and city walkways and applies de-icing products;
Assists with turf mowing when needed;
Other duties as required;

WORKING CONDITIONS
Various weather conditions;
Lifting heavy loads;
Combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching and kneeling;


QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary certificate/diploma in Horticulture;
Minimum 1 year of experience as a horticulture technician in garden and plant maintenance;
Valid class G driver's license;
Ability to operate varied equipment i

e:
3 ton dump truck, tractor with loader, riding mowers, blowers etc.

Must enjoy working outdoors;
Capability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, complete repetitive tasks and pay attention to detail;
Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
Keeps safety as a number one priority in all activities;
Good communication skills;
A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance must be obtained prior to start date.

Monday to Friday day shifts
