  • Do you enjoy executing complex and exciting global transactions? Do you want to be part of a collaborative and collegial team? British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking Counsel to join our transactional legal team to support our global investment activity._


BCI manages a globally diversified portfolio of assets valued at over 211 billion CDN and is one of Canada's largest institutional investors.

We seek Counsel to join our private investment transaction team working from our Victoria office to assist with global M&A transactions in an in-house environment.

Reporting to Senior Counsel, Counsel is responsible for providing transaction legal services in relation to global private investments working in a team environment with internal and external counsel to assist deal teams to execute on their global investment strategy.- a law degree (J.D. or LL.B.)- practicing member status (or the ability to become practicing) with the Law Society of BC- 3+ years' experience in a corporate or securities transactional practice at a leading law firm, investment manager, financial institution, private equity sponsor or pension fund

Experience with any of the following is highly regarded:

  • expertise in mergers and acquisitions, securities or corporate finance
  • experience with private investment funds
  • outstanding presentation and project management skills to coordinate transaction execution across the organization
  • familiarity with global regulatory processes (CFIUS, FIRB, FERC, Competition, Antitrust)
  • experience with statutory entities and government agency status

Primary responsibilities:
- work closely with deal teams in Victoria and our global offices providing legal advice and support for complex investment activities- engage, supervise and coordinate external advisors around the globe- draft, review and negotiate investment related agreements- marshall regulatory processes to close transactions- provide guidance on contractual, legal, regulatory and governance requirements- identify and mitigate investment and regulatory risks
