We currently have an opportunity for a
part-time Neonatal Feed Preparation Aid in the NICU Unit.

Hours of Work:
Every other Weekend: Both Saturday and Sunday H)


How Neonatal Feed Preparation Aid support our teams at Grand River Hospital:

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is comprised of a 22 bed Level 2B NICU, providing medical and convalescent care to approximately 900 neonates and their families per year and serving a broad geographic area within southern Ontario.

The interdisciplinary team provides family centered care with a strong focus on evidence-based best practice, safety, and continuous quality improvement.

Provision of exemplary care that is patient focused, and based on current best evidence. Collaboration within the multidisciplinary team to support a safe, productive, and respectful working environment.

The Neonatal Feed Preparation Aid position would include:

monitoring of nutrition care plans with a focus on the care of pre-term and term neonates with complex nutritional needs while, overseeing the milk and formula preparation areas, including the analysis, preparation and fortification of breast milk and formula and stocking, weekly ordering of donor milk.

This role would be responsible for reviewing feeding guidelines as well as policy and procedure compliance audits as they relate to the feeding of infants in the neonatal care unit.

Participation in student education and research as required.


At Grand River Hospital, the Neonatal Feed Preparation Aid:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Applied Human Nutrition or College Diploma in Food Service Administrative Technology
  • Proficient in computer literacy skills, experience with Cerner an asset
  • Excellent communication, organization, problemsolving, conflict resolution and time management skills
  • Understanding of total fluid intake calculations
  • Understanding of the unique and complex nutritional requirements of neonates, especially those born prematurely or with growth restriction
  • A focus on safety and ethics, and takes responsibility for own practice
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in pediatric and neonatal populations preferred
  • Refer to departmental feeding polices/guidelines/job aids for appropriate receipt, storage, verification and preparation of human milk and formula.

  • Complete donor milk order weekly and receiving and storing shipments of donor milk as they arrive
  • Stocking feeding supply carts
  • Clean areas and equipment according to safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Check refrigerators temps on unit
