About the Position

We are looking for a Paralegal, Commercial-Real Estate to join the Commercial-Real Estate practice group in our Montréal office.

Reporting to the commercial-real estate practice group coordinator, the successful applicant will help the Commercial Real Estate lawyers manage their files.

They will act as a full member of the team, understand the issues involved in different files, perform assigned duties and deliver the high-quality work Davies' clients expect.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct searches, analyze the results and draft reports (corporate profiles, the Register of Personal and Moveable Real Rights (RPMRR), security under the _Bank Act_, Bankruptcy and Insolvency Records and court records)
  • Coordinate security and litigation searches with our agents outside Québec
  • Conduct searches in the Land Register, on Infolot, in the Québec Register of Real and Immovable Mining Rights (RIMR), the Register of the Domain of the State, the Commission for the Protection of Agricultural Land of Québec, etc.
  • Conduct offtitle searches with public bodies (municipalities, various government departments, etc.), analyze the documents obtained and draft search reports
  • Obtain and analyze land zoning and permitted uses
  • Fill out RDPRM registration forms and follow up on registrations
  • Draft lease notices, releases and other deeds for the Land Register
  • Contact the various registrars, government bodies and municipalities
  • Obtain and analyze municipal and school tax confirmations and calculate land transfer taxes
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities

Qualifications:


  • DEC in paralegal studies or equivalent diploma
  • Two (2) years of experience as a paralegal or legal technician, an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English _(The position involves providing service to internal and external clients both in and outside Québec, hence verbal and written proficiency in both languages is required.)_
  • Familiarity with the databases for the Land Register, Infolot, the Register of Personal and Moveable Real Rights (in particular the RDPRM-Web forms), SOQUIJ-Azimut, court records, the Québec Enterprise Register, Corporations Canada and other corporate databases, the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (OSB), the Québec Register of Real and Immovable Mining Rights (RIMR), the Register of the Domain of the State, the Commission for the Protection of Agricultural Land of Québec, etc.
  • Ability to investigate and conduct searches with a minimum amount of information
  • Ability to analyze, summarize and organize documents carefully and thoroughly
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Friendly, able to communicate professionally and courteously
  • Intellectually curious and resourceful
  • Ability to produce highquality work within tight deadlines
  • Proactive in problem solving
  • Available to work outside normal hours from time to time
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
