Position Summary

This is a remote position located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.


Thales is looking for a
Commissioning Manager who will act as the customer point of contact for ensuring the delivery of compliant system solutions throughout ship commissioning activities with demonstrated traceability to contracted requirements.


In this position, you will be responsible for the development and deployment of naval commissioning processes and best practice that shall be used by the commissioning teams responsible for conducting test and trials.


You will also participate in all phases of engineering to ensure ship commissioning stakeholders input is provided throughout the Systems Engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architectural design, preliminary and detailed design tasks, system integration, procurement planning, engineering and project risk management, and engineering close-out activities.


Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Represent Thales as the Subject Matter Expert in Electronic Systems Integration commissioning activities and provide commissioning input direct to the prime ship builder for the requirements, design and build activities.
  • Provide comprehensive discipline expertise in all areas of Electronic Systems Integration and ship commissioning activities and provide input to proposals, scopes of work, establishing budgets and schedules to ensure contract requirements are met.
  • Provide comprehensive discipline expertise in all areas of Electronic Systems Integration by providing technical oversight for commissioning activities and influence system requirements and designs to ensure commissioning input has been provided.
  • Support the Commissioning Team in the planning and execution of ship commissioning events.
  • Provide coordination and liaison support to a diverse commissioning stakeholder community.
  • Support the resource plan commissioning resources to meet business requirements.
  • Provide commissioning input during reviews in order to achieve customer, classification society and regulatory approval.
  • Provide mentoring and technical advice to subordinate engineers in support of onboarding new staff and succession planning.
  • Comprehensive understanding of design standards for naval platforms.
  • Experience in ship construction, design and maintenance will be an asset.
  • Duties require strong leadership, project management/planning, technical, and communication skills.
  • High level oral and written communication skills required for report writing and design justification documentation.
  • Assist the Marketing Team on proposals.

Minimum Requirements

Skills and Abilities:

  • 10 years of experience in marine systems engineering (aspects of mechanical and electrical design).
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills required to succeed on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Capable of developing strong relationships across the business through excellent customer service.
  • People Management/leadership.
  • Excellent adaptability.

Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical or Marine Systems Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:

  • Naval or Marine construction experience.

Education:


  • Eligible for P.Eng. license.
  • Master's degree in mechanical, Electrical or Marine Systems Engineering.

Physical Demands


This position occasionally involves moving around aboard a ship that is in the process of being built, which includes, but is not limited to, climbing ladders, walking across gangways, and crawling under obstacles.

This position also occasionally involves working on board a ship that is out at sea.


Special Position Requirements

Schedule:40 hours/week. Overtime may be necessary depends on the demand and project schedule.

Frequent access to shipyard


Travel:
Travel required depending on Commissioning locations.


Customer Location Based or Site Visits:Primarily based at customer location - VSY - Vancouver - BC
