Job Summary

The Mechanical Design Lead's primary function is to provide mechanical design and sustaining engineering expertise, prepare and check designs, drawings, calculations and cost analysis, ensuring engineering projects are executed successfully, requiring mínimal supervision. The Mechanical Design Lead will also mentor and assist the engineering department with direction from the Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities:


1. Coordinate with mechanical and electrical designers to develop the general arrangement, SLD, P&ID and submittal package for customer approval.

3. Review drawings for accuracy, correct materials, proper manufacturing sequencing, etc.

4. Liaise between mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and assembly manufacturing groups for technical assistance in developing concepts and processes as well as assist in estimating labor and material costs to meet customer requirements.

5. Provide technical leadership and direction to the project team.

6. Work with the Project Management team to assure projects are on-time, within a defined budget and scope.

7. Analyze expected vs. actual design costs to optimize performance expectations.

Job Specific Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience

1. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (P. Eng would be an asset) or equivalent in education and work experience

2. 8+ years of Mechanical Engineering and design experience

3. Fabrication and assembly related experience would be an asset.

4. Must demonstrate attention to detail and provide accuracy in calculations and documentation.

5. Expert user of Solidworks CAD software.

6. Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

7. Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel primarily in North America but potentially abroad.
