Ontario offices (Cambridge, Guelph, Ottawa, Toronto, or Waterloo). The Proposal and Technical Editing Specialist coordinates moderately complex proposals and other marketing materials for the regional/branch marketing department and technical deliverables for senior practitioners while ensuring these procedures are implemented in accordance with Geosyntec policies, government regulations, and copyright laws. Work requires the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of proposals, marketing materials, and technical documents and edit these materials following established guidelines with respect to sourcing, grammar, presentation of analytical assessment, and sequencing, working in line with the firm's Quality Management Plan.
  • Recommend use and formatting of layouts, graphics, drawings, tables, exhibits, illustrations, and charts to amplify or clarify document objectives.
  • Proofread copy for spelling, grammar, clarity, and formatting consistency. Make or suggest appropriate changes and provide feedback to the teams that created the document.
  • Maintain files and systems to organize, streamline, and advance the delivery of technical and marketing materials.
  • Oversee staff in managing routine marketing collateral. (Keep key task schedules on track, and keep resumes and project descriptions up to date)
  • Develop branded presentations with targeted messaging.
  • Work with practitioners to hone key differentiator information and win themes.
  • Create and approve news announcements for internal and external postings within the branch.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in technical writing, science, or engineering, or related field with at least of 4 years (6+ preferred) of progressive experience as a technical writer or editor. (required)
  • Experience helping prepare and edit proposals, technical documents, reports, publications, and presentations. (required)
  • Excellent formatting, writing, editing, and proofreading skills. (required)
  • Extensive knowledge of English grammar and spelling as well as general knowledge of technical terminology. (required)
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships and to adapt to different communication styles and interact effectively to maintain a team environment. (required).
  • Ability to thrive in a client deadlinedriven work environment, organizing work, multitasking, prioritizing tasks, and managing workflows. (required)
  • Ability to maintain constant attention to detail and to work collaboratively and independently under tight deadlines. (required)
  • Ability to find effective solutions to problems independently. (required)
  • Valid Canadian driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Editing certificate. (preferred)
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Professional (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe.
  • Practical problemsolving abilities and critical and analytical thinking about the purpose of the document and how the content may be improved. (preferred)
  • Ability to translate technical jargon into plain language. (preferred)
