Payroll Accounting Analyst:


Reporting to the Manager, Payroll Governance, the Payroll Accounting Analyst is responsible for, supporting month-end processes, preparing account reconciliations for payroll costs and supporting labour analysis.


This position is located at 115 Carrie Cates Court, North Vancouver.

What you'll do

  • Reviews payroll tax remittance report and prepares the weekly payroll tax remittance reconciliation.
  • Prepares monthly invoicing for payroll costs including intercompany billing and cross
- departmental labour cost redistribution.

  • Calculates quarterly Employer Health Tax payments, prepares adjustment entries and files annual returns.
  • Performs quarterly WorkSafe BC reconciliation and proposes adjustment entries.
  • Coordinates with Payroll team and performs monthly extended health benefit, pension and vacation reconciliation.
  • Supports the budget and forecasting process throughout the year.
  • Collaborates with operations finance and FP&A team to understand business need in labour analytics and develops reports to achieve key joint initiatives.
  • Prepares monthly G/L account reconciliations, investigation of reconciling items, and preparation of journal entries, including monthly allocation entries.
  • Collaborates with HR Total Rewards team; performs analysis on the IBP and other incentives calculation and reviews journal entries.
  • Performs labour variance analysis by interpreting payroll reports; connecting payroll reports with accounting records; identifies the issues; bridges the gap between different systems and functions and proposes resolutions.
  • Prepares yearend working papers for audit purposes, along with other reports and analysis as requested.
  • Liaises with financial reporting, operations finance, transactional accounting team to ensure the accuracy and completeness of labour costs and cost distribution.
  • Collaborates with HR Admin team and assists with the annual pension filing.
  • Reviews weekly timecard journal entries posting and provides GL coding instructions to payroll team in payroll processing.
  • Liaises with various finance teams in the main business sectors including Shipyards and Marine group on GL structure realignment and develops reports as requested.
  • Reviews accounting instruction setup for payroll costs (AAIs) and proposes recommendations.
  • Participates in adhoc projects including Financial Reporting ERP system transformation and new HR & Payroll platform implementation.
  • Documents processes to ensure performance of key controls and provide support as necessary.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor degree in accounting; CGA/CMA/CPA or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive payroll & benefits accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and payroll concepts.
  • Ability to prepare and reconcile variety of journal entries, reports and analysis.
  • Ability to accurately process payroll journal entries in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Strong understanding of accounting month end procedures and payroll concepts.
  • Strong analytical skills to understand large and complex account reconciliations.
  • Strong organization and timemanagement skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Experience in developing reports using Business Intelligence tools such as SAP BI and Power BI is an asset
  • Experience with JD Edwards Enterprise One or proven computer aptitude with major ERP system.
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment.
