Job Purpose:


The Media Relations Manager will focus on identifying newsworthy WVC stories and successfully pitching them to print, broadcast and digital media outlets.

Collaborating with internal client teams, the Media Relations Manager thinks beyond traditional narratives to create engaging media pitches with the goal of securing on-target coverage.


Responsibilities:


  • Lead development and execution of integrated media relations strategies in collaboration with the Strategic Communications team and other functions to drive awareness of World Vision Canada, our work and our leadership team
  • Manage daytoday media relations activities
  • Meet with internal stakeholders to understand their earned media goals for announcements, events, and more
  • Develop and pitch story ideas to media nationwide
  • Work with the Communications Coordinator to track media coverage and generate wrapup and quarterly reports
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for media inquiries and responds in timely manner
  • Identify and stay current on relevant Canadian news, and international emergencies and offer perspectives as needed
  • Develop press releases and related messages for spokespeople
  • Oversee media training of spokespeople.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree or Community College diploma, preferably in public relations or journalism or equivalent work experience
  • 5 7 years of experience in public relations with an agency and/or NGO media relations.
  • Proven experience developing and securing media stories in traditional and digital media.
  • Solid media relations skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships with journalists.
  • Thorough understanding of media.
  • Exceptional storytelling and writing skills.
  • Strong communication and people skills; able to win the confidence of various stakeholders.
  • Experience working in crosscultural environments, sensitivity to multicultural social, religious and gender issues.
  • Strong analytical skills, clearly assessing and evaluating issues and alternative approaches.
  • Ability to diligently set, track and measure media campaign/program performance and clearly report results.
  • Exceptional timemanagement and organizational skills, with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while collaborating with a team or independently.
