The Opportunity:

The Controller manages our day-to-day accounting function and supervises a team of 6. A significant focus is on coaching and ensuring all essential reporting, compliance, and transaction requirements are met.

The individual has strong organizational skills, an eye for detail, and is an excellent communicator. The ability to build rapport and maintain relationships with third-party organizations is essential to the success of this role.


Our Controller will play an integral role in the execution and delivery of our organization's mission by "creating and delivering inspiring workspaces everywhere work happens." You will succeed as an individual and as a team by listening, collaborating, and delivering exceptional experiences.


Core Responsibilities

Management:

  • Produce and maintain a system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist with overseeing the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
  • Assist with Overseeing the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transactionsprocessing operations, and coding in order processing
  • Investigate and ensure accuracy and performance of all company's revenues & expenses
  • Manage commercial banking relationships to facilitate an appropriate credit resource

Transactions:

  • Ensure accounts payable, and receivable transactions are completed promptly and optimized
  • Investigate and ensure the accuracy and performance of all company's revenues and expenses
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and system of controls

Reporting:

  • Accurate and timely preparation of management and ASPE Financial Statements for the Heritage Group of Companies, including consolidated proportionate annual statements
  • Assist with budget preparation by collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data
  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts report on variances to management
  • Provide financial analysis and support, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Prepare reports for management as well as financial outlooks and financial forecasts

Compliance:

  • Comply with provincial and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings and advise management on required actions
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors with financial audits and income tax return preparations
  • Manage the accuracy and productivity of daytoday activities

Supervisory:

  • Manage the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Accounting/Finance Department. Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, directing work, rewarding, disciplining employees, performance reviews, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in Accounting
  • Sound leadership and team building
  • High level of analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Strong time management skills with high attention to detail
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically excel. Knowledge of an ERP system
  • CPA designation
