The Electricity Policy and Regulation Branch is at the forefront of high-profile policy issues, including oversight of BC Hydro and billion-dollar projects such as Site C, achievement of CleanBC climate action goals through electrification and fuel switching strategies, reducing GHG emissions related to natural gas consumption, and collaborating with stakeholders and Indigenous people to advance economic development within the emerging clean economy.


A highly skilled communicator with exceptional analytical abilities, you capably assess complex issues, review and interpret detailed financial and technical data, and evaluate policies and legislation to provide insightful recommendations.

You thrive when balancing multiple files and working in fast paced, dynamic environments with consistent exposure to high-profile projects and executive decision makers.

With a high degree of autonomy, you take projects from inception to completion, including forming and leading multi-disciplinary teams on policy projects, collaborating with senior leaders representing external stakeholders and/or Indigenous organizations, personally presenting the results to Cabinet Ministers and/or Ministry executive, and developing drafting instructions to implement approved legislative and regulatory initiatives.

Job Requirements:

Education

  • Minimum Undergraduate Degree, preferably in law, economics, commerce, public administration, or public policy and 3 years of related experience* within the last 7 years
    OR:
  • A combination of post-secondary education and training and 5 years related experience* within the last 7 years may be considered.
  • Related Experience must include:
  • Senior level experience providing leadership and expertise in the development of evidencebased policy in a government, public sector, or similar highly regulated environment, preferably in the regulated utility sector.
  • Experience researching, analyzing, and evaluating complex regulatory, technical, programrelated or broad cross sector issues and information (preferably related to public utilities, Indigenous, electricity or natural gas) to assess the impact on policy or legislation
  • Experience managing relationships with senior government and industry leaders and officials and leading consultation sessions.
  • Experience producing complex and highlevel written documentation including policy, ministerial and executive level correspondence, etc.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience in public utility regulation, energy and/or climate action policy, and/or administration of public natural resource management frameworks.
