The AV Installer/Technician provides AV and IT installation and commissioning services for classrooms, labs, trade shops, simulation rooms, meeting, and event spaces.

This individual is also responsible for servicing and debugging AV systems, technology development support, equipment inventory and deployment, special events support, equipment upgrades and maintenance.

They provide technical training to others for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of implemented systems.


Responsibilities:


  • Perform IT tasks on campus and in construction sites across multiple locations, including, but not limited to, Kitchener, Cambridge, Waterloo, Guelph, Milton, and Brantford
  • Responsible for the successful installation and commissioning of AV and IT equipment including projectors, TVs, consoles, speakers, mounts, anchors, PCs, monitors, controllers and touch panels, cameras, microphones, scalers, equipment racks, printers, phones etc.
  • Install structured cabling which includes pulling, termination, and testing including, but not limited to, cat6, fiber, video, coax, HDMI, DVI and audio cables
  • Responsible for the delivery of equipment to sites and returns to warehouse
  • Assist the IT Project Deployment Specialist with project related tasks as needed
  • Work along side AV and IT contractors to install and commission project equipment assuring each system's physical completeness is in accordance with installation drawings and scope of work
  • Assist in the creation of project documentation including but not limited to IT requirements, installation specifications, commissioning checklists, bill of materials, procurement requests, status reports and deficiency lists
  • Provide diagnostic and repair services for AV systems and IT equipment
  • Work closely with IT Staff to keep them informed of technical issues, followups, escalations, and resolutions
  • Follow up on open service incidents assigned ensuring tickets do not remain open beyond the expected service level
  • Clearly document the resolution for each incident updating the knowledge base and wiki site as needed
  • Take ownership of technical problems and be proactive in resolving the issues
  • Setup test systems for development, root cause analysis, research, ongoing test
  • Participate in technology product reviews by creating an evaluation plan, setting up test environments and documenting evaluation results
  • Troubleshoot advanced systems and work with manufacturers support team to resolve issues
  • Lab maintenance including setup and teardowns
  • Provide support for special events and conferences
  • Temporary installation of audio and video equipment, sound system and projection equipment; this requires obtaining the required equipment, communication with and training the users, tear down and proper storage of equipment; may require overseeing onsite support during the event
  • Train IT support resources in the installation, use and troubleshooting of AV systems and equipment
  • Provide user training for AV systems and video conferencing technology
  • Plan and perform routine equipment maintenance such as inservice inspections, firmware updates, system verification tests, recalibration, enhancements and upgrades, cleaning of equipment
  • Assist to image, update, and maintain classroom and meeting room computers.
  • RMA support
  • Responsible for project and maintenance equipment inventory; obtain quotes, procurement status, arrange for delivery to sites, restock, organize, and track inventory for projects and keep inventory database updated
  • Load and unload AV and IT equipment at shop, warehouse, and worksites

Qualifications:

  • Twoyear Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technician, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related field of study
  • Five years of IT/AV equipment installation and troubleshooting experience
  • AVIXA CTS, Extron or Crestron certifications is considered an asset
  • Project experience with Extron/Crestron AV design, programming, installation, and troubleshooting
  • Experience working in active construction zones for equipment installation and commissioning
  • Experience with control systems, video conferencing, switching hardware, audio DSP setup and calibration, video projection and display systems
  • Knowledgeable in networking such as TCP/IP, addressing, firewalls, routers, VLANS, shielded and unshielded cable termination
