Our Surrey, BC Distribution Centre is currently seeking a Full time Food Safety / HR Coordinator
to join our Operations team.

The essential function of this position is responsible for the coordination and maintenance of Food Safety, Health and Safety and HR by aiding, communicating and following up on policies, procedures and documentation.

This position partners with management to implement and /or update safety related programs and procedures while promoting safety through education, training and fostering a safety culture throughout the organization.


Hours:
Monday to Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm


Wages:
$20 to $25 hourly

Primary Responsibilities

Food Safety

  • Provide assistance with implementation of Food Safety and Quality policies, procedures and documentation.
  • Serves as the site Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Practitioner.
  • Reporting corrective action assist with logging and tracking of noncompliances and FS incidences, helps with investigations, coordinate followup and bring outstanding issues to closure.
  • FS Training assist in implementation of training programs, conduct training classes, maintain training records.
  • GMP assist in implementation of rules, conduct audits, and maintain records.
  • Audits third party, government customer assist with audit preparation, organization and followup. This includes being onsite for annual unannounced SQF audits.
  • Conduct routine audits of internal food safety program, product specifications and organic program.
  • Reports to Management obtain, input, tabulate FS data and provide reports to Management.

HR / Health and Safety

  • Schedule and conduct prescreens, interviews and reference checks
  • Conduct orientation and new hire training
  • Track vacation and attendance
  • Coordinate monthly events and employee engagement
  • Enforce Safe Work Practice and Correct all unsafe conditions/practices
  • Ensure compliance with the Hazards Communication Program, Emergency Action Plan, PPE, Fire Prevention Plan, Confined Space Entry Program, and any other programs required by OSHA, Canadian local governmental safety compliance and Corporate Safety, Health and Environment Department
  • TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Reporting) reporting weekly to corp
  • Conduct Forklift Training/ documentation (new hire & every 3 yrs upon expiration), after any nearmiss, incident, injury, etc.
  • Host Joint Health and Safety Monthly Meeting and Inspections documenting and follow up.
  • Manage and Update Health and Safety Board
  • Assist Company in Developing and Maintaining company safety policies (binder)

Education/Background Requirements:


  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate's or bachelor's degree a plus
  • Two years of related experience preferred
  • First Aid, CPR and OSHA 30 Hour Certification preferred or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Must be a high performance team player and willing to work in a dynamic, growing, demanding and fast paced environment.
  • Willing to work hands on the production floor to conduct audits, checks, and train personnel
  • Must be a selfstarter.
  • Ability to be trained in HACCP, JHSC Part 1 & 2, Food certification programs, etc.
  • Take ownership of the job and have excellent time management skills.

Working Conditions:


  • Position requires sitting, standing, walking and bending on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds. Limited kneeling, squatting and crawling required.
