    About the role
    Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time, Manager, Development Lab Operations to join our dynamic Development Laboratory team.

    The Development Laboratory team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by leading process development efforts within the Integrated Supply Chain that complements the capabilities of the Research & Development laboratory. In addition, the Development Laboratory may provide validation and technology transfer support for organizational strategic projects.

    In this role, you will be responsible for the planning and effective operation of the Development Lab. You will develop, implement, and continuously monitor all Development Lab operational processes, oversee the Development Lab portfolio of projects, and contribute to the development and execution of Development Lab and Supply Chain Process Management strategy.

    Formula for success


    • Leveraging your collaborative skills, you will act as an on-site contact for the Development Lab's customers, stakeholders, and partners to ensure integration and prioritization of projects that require the use of Development Lab resources. You will also oversee the Development Lab portfolio of projects while ensuring alignment with the Supply Chain Process Management senior management team, process owners, and Product & Process Development.

    • Drawing on your managerial and interpersonal skills, you will manage the staffing lifecycle, lead staff goal setting, manage performance, and ensure that staff are trained to perform their duties.


    • Utilizing your knowledge of effective uses of resources, you will support the preparation of the operational budget and forecasts.


    • You will ensure equipment is installed and qualified as appropriate, maintained, and operational when needed.

    • Applying your continuous improvement mindset, you will develop, implement, and continuously improve Development Lab processes.


    • Harnessing your strong analytical, research and product development skills you will seek out and identify opportunities for improvement as well as provide accurate reports on activities and performance.

    Desired education and skills

    • Completion of post-secondary level education in a relevant field, with preference in the life-sciences.

    • Minimum of ten years of related, progressive operations and management experience in a research, development, or product manufacturing environment.

    • Effective written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person and via teleconference.

    • Excellent analytical, planning, organizational, prioritization, and conflict resolution skills.

    • Experience working in the manufacture of blood and blood products and managing staff in a flexible control environment is desirable.

    • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
