Position Description:

***: This position provides administrative support to the day-to-day operations of the Surgery Centre at the Centre for Ambulatory Health Services. All patient related details and unit activities are coordinated to ensure the smooth operation of the unit and adherence to the policies and procedures of the hospital and the Department of Nursing.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, plus up to 2 years postsecondary in office administration.
  • Minimum one year, up to 2 years experience providing administrative support in a hospital setting.
  • Medical terminology certificate.
  • Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm.
  • Clerical testing may be required
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, both in person and by telephone.
  • Maintain excellent interpersonal relationships while handling multiple tasks, frequent interruptions and stressful situations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assembles charts for scheduled procedures at the Surgery Centre in correct order, ensuring that all pertinent patient information, including doctor's orders, is available, stamped and filed correctly.
  • Registers patients, confirming appointment details with patient by phone if necessary.
  • Triages incoming calls, answering immediate concerns and referring other calls as required.
  • Ensures all filing, charting and registrations are completed for local patients and are up to date for the next day's unit activities, communicating any changes accordingly.
  • Ensures all supplies required by the unit are adequately stocked and reordered and malfunctioning equipment is serviced in a timely manner.
  • Completes weekly unit statistics, monthly census reports and staffing logs.
  • Ensures nursing station and work area is maintained in an organized and presentable way at all times.
  • Obligation to review and commit to applicable departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Assists with other unit activities as delegated by the Nurse Manager.

$ $ $27.81 (plus 14% in lieu of benefits)
